No, you need to change the head to make what we call a "mini me" vtec engine.

Put v-tec stickers on your car. People will think you have v-tec, and thats just as good as actually having it.

related to this.

i have a 95 civic hatch, when i bought her used the guy told me it was a a1.6 v-tec e SOHC engine. printed on the engine is d151z thus making it 1.5liter, correct? when buying a timing belt, it fit for the 1.5 liter engine. does this mean the guy swapped the engine or made it mini me.
there is no sticker on the engine either. overall she runs beautifully so i wasnt concerned about this when i bought her, im still learning the basics of b and d series motors cause this is my first car.

if anyone has any ideas please respond. thanks

If on the valve cover it says VTEC E, you have a d15z1 (I think is the correct code). It comes out of the VX. It is an economy version of the 1.6 VTEC, as it only has the extra ports on the exhaust side. Unlike a regular VTEC that has them on both intake and exhaust. Makes like 92hp? I have this motor, Got 18x,xxx on it. Runs great, and Im not easy on it by ANY means. Trans sucks though, the 2nd longest gearing honda made (I believe) besides the HF CRX. But I can get it to 110 in 3rd, and have raced an older styled accord and won, up hill! but its a VERY weak motor, redline is 5800k. But I also get 50 MPG in it.

Sorry it was long, im bored...

one correction, the vtec-e operates in 12v mode, 2 exhaust, and 1 intake until the vtec solenoid kicks in, then the second set of intake valves lock to the primaries.

That joke isnt even funny when someone actually does spell it v-tech and even less funny when they spell it the correct way.
