here's the problem (OBD0 B16 swap in 90 EF/PR3 ECU):
While driving today, CEL 17 (VSS) came up and the speedometer died on me. I started to notice my tach fluctuating, my fuel gauge raise from 1/2 tank to full, and the temperature gauge rising from normal to a little above the half way point. I noticed the gauges acting up say if I signaled or turned the hazard lights on and went back to normal when the signals were off.

I popped the hood and noticed my speedometer cable broke...so that answers my non-working speedometer problem. Does anyone think the broken speedo has anything to do with the problem with my the other gauges or is it a totally different problem? Any ideas?

yes. i have a friend who used to own a SIR2 b16 hatchback, and his VSS went out, and his car would randomly jerk, and the gauges would go f'in nutz

 

speedo cable has nothing to do wit ur gauges messin up like that....check ur alt it my be bad

 

Could be a bad gauge cluster

 

i dont no cause my alt when bad and my gauges were going crazy

Anyone else had a similar situation like this? mine didn't jerk, but the gauges went crazy! i just hope it's not the alternator.
