Converting a/c from R12 to R134a
Hi i have a 92 prelude and i am goin to convert my a/c to r134a. To be able to do that , would i was to change out the rest of my component like my reciever dry, evaoprator, condensor, txv valve, or thermalstatic switch? Cuz i no ur not suppost to mix those 2 refregerant together.
no. just recover and put into a long vacum. go buy the retrofit kit from honda. they can give you a print out of the service bulliten and it will give you detailed instructions on how to install it and the proper steps you need to take.
I think all you have to do is evacuate the system for a good long time.
Change the service fittings.....
Put the r134a sticker on the car - and remove the r12..........
Charge with R134a - and make sure you use the Esther oil or whatever......
maybe i'm wrong though.
uh, you might have to change to the receiver dryer though. I'll try to look everything up for you.

You could leave the condenser and evaporator on. Another suggestion would be if you get AC lines of a 94 and up prelude, and compressor i think you could get away with the txv. You are going to need pag oil. But if your AC doesnt work than you have a leak, cuase you can't run out of freon, unless when you got the car the previous owner evacuated the system or something. You could use the same compressor if you replace the o rings on it, or something like that.
Yeah - evacuate the system longer than 30min - i'd do atleast an hour. You have to get everything out of there.
The oils are not "supposed" to mix - but a lot of people I know have been running the mineral oil with the r134a - and they've held fine. They all had GM vehicles though - so just get the pag or esther oil.
