Default H23 crank and revs

How high can you rev a h23 crank? My cousin wants to put a h23 crank in and go 20 over on his pistons. Basically, a h23 vtec. With Jun 3 cams & valvetrain how high can he rev? I know that the Jun cams have a high potential, but can the h23 crank keep up? Is it bad to use such a high lift cam? He likes Rockets cams as well because they make power starting at 4000-4500 rpm's (before vtec). Thanks for the help.

If you use the h23 crank in the h22 block you will be keeping the h23 stock red line cause of the smaller main bearings

Yeah, if you over-rev the h23 crank, you're gonna cause damage to it for sure, a reason why many people say that H23/VTEC setups 'don't work'.

Get it balanced and it should let you raise it a little bit but not the same as an H22.

Yea I would not suggest reving much past the 6500 redline. It ended my h23s life early.

if you get some arp hardware, make sure your bearing clearances are all in good spec, and balance the block well, you will be able to rev to 8000 fairly safely....because you will need that much for those cams....

lightweight rods and pistons would definitely help...

I ran a fully built and balanced bottom end with both an h23 head and later an h22 head with 500+whp daily. I had my redline at 8200rpm and in first gear at the track (and sometimes with misshifts) it saw 8500rpm or so. Crank, main bearings, etc were always in mint condition every time I did a teardown each winter (even when main bearings were reused). I never had the ***** to take it higher than that...mainly because I wasnt making power up there.
Balance it properly and you will have no problems at 8k
