Default new 17s

so i just put some brand new 17s on my 92 Ac and i noticed one thing, it's higher. the car looks a lot higher than before, i am planning on buying a new suspension for this car but for now i want to lower the car at least an inch. i don't have the money to buy new adjustable springs as of now, so for now what can i do to drop it some. can i somehow cut the springs an inch to lower the car while i save up for suspension mods? and how does that affect the ride quality? any help is appreciated.
