Default timing belt snapped only going 5mph

i got a 95 perlude si (h23). while pulling out of the driveway going about 5mph timing belt snapped. what are the chances of valve damage on the h23 heads. never really had any experience with h23 heads.

A friend of mine snapped the timing belt in his GSR teggy at idle and he didn't have any bent valves.

If you were barely idling you should be alright, but the only way to be sure is to pull off the head, and take a look. I assuming you didn't hear any carnage, like metal to metal noises

make sure and check it. Hondas are interference motors and TB snaps are much more dangerous.

wtf that is terrible man, at least it happened going slow. I hear it's way less dangerous that way. How many miles you got?

hey i got a h22 with 180k and snapped my belt at 3k/rpms. man that was sh*t. but for
me i was lucky and got no bent valve or warpage on the head. but to be safe, like i did, i took apart the whole head and have a shop check the head out. I heard all story about how terrible honda "interference" head was....but if your gonna spent the money for a new engine/head, might as well check out the head first. it cheaper that way. hope that help.

(40,000 km)
snapped going 60km/h, two days after getting it back from the shop for some engine work. i think they nicked the belt. anyways this is old news, point is.. no bent valves or damage. i thought i would post my results for others.

Err. Just to be safe, i'm changing my timing belt next week.

Thats some real ****. What mileage did everyone have when they experienced the TB break?.....I have about 80,000(Who the expletive knows) on my engine. I could have over 100,000 - i don't know. All I know is that I've never had a mechanical problem with my engine at all. So, i'm assuming it has lower mileage.

im getting ready to do another h23vtec now and i cleaned up the h22 head bolts in an ultrasonic cleaner. the black coating on the head bolts was removed during cleaning, now they look silver. does anyone know if running them without the black coating is okay?

the h22 I believe an interferance engine but only in vtec I heard. so if you are at 5000rpms or lower you should be good for an h22.

the h23 I believe is an interferance motor all the time. (smashy smashy)

also you are not suppossed to reuse headbolts. go get some arp head studs they are reuseable.

and nice threadjack

I think there is an actual limit for the headbolts. Maybe 2 or 3 times of being re torqued. I reused my headbolts when i did my headswap and i have no problems over 30K miles later. This was their second time being retorqued. If you are worried about it and want peice of mind, an OEM set is about 70 somethin bucks from the dealer.
