transmission desperation HELP!!
ok long story short POP there goes the tranny in my 91 Si.. i need a transmission ASAP and i can get an 88 DX tranny.. however.. i know this uses a smaller clutch and maybe flywheel? so heres my question
how many splines are in the 88 input shaft and how many are on the 89-91 input shaft ( so i can count and know what year im looking at at a junkyard)
and
inorder to put this 88 tranny in my car will i need an 88 spec flywheels, clutch and PP OR can i use the 91 flywheel and PP with just a 88 clutch disk ( to match the spline number on the 88 tranny)
AND will the 91 Si axles work for an 88 dx tranny?
thanks for the info guys im sorta desperate... my job depends on my car.

bump for you and I don't know for sure but if you need an si, I have a 91 Si tranny with 140k miles, no grinds at all. Ran perfect but swaped out for my gsr. The only problem is I live in MN and shipping would take a week.
the '88 trannys have 190mm clutch disc and its 21 splines, the 89's are 200mm use the same flywheel as the 88's but changed over to 20 splines, all 1990 and above d series use a 210mm disc and a flywheel with a bigger bolt pattern. yes you can use an '88 clutch disc with your '91 pp and flywheel though its not ideal, you can get a 21 spline clutch disc that is 210mm for a '87 prelude SI that will work much better with your '91 stuff. yes you can use your '91 axles.
one more thing, i you said your SI took a crap, but if the diff is still good you can put it in a dx tranny and have essentially an Si tranny cause all Si and Dx trannys are pretty much the same except for the final drive ratio
damn.. thanks man.. awesome to know
yeah.. im not sure what the deal with the tranny is.i dont really have time to swap out the diff anyway. i THINK the pinion gear or something pertaning to it took a **** on me ( input shaft?) i can just stick the car in gear while its running without disengagint the clutch and te speedo will start to rise.. so the tranny/speed sensor is getting motion but the wheels arent.. so.. that tells me that something isnt turning the ring gear....beats me.. but thanks man.. looks like im gettign a 87 prelude disk.. and youre SURE this will all fit??
thanks alot!!
