Default need to fill holes on chassis. oxyacetylene torch or mig/tig?

i removed the rear emblem on my 90 hatch and now i have two holes that need to be filled. My neighbor said just fill the holes with bondo and be done with it, but i know there's a better way.

would i warp the hatch if i used an oxyacetylene torch to fill the holes?
For solder i'd propably get some lincoln welding sticks with flux from home depot.

Or should i find a shop that has a mig/tig welder?

thanks

ok thanks. I have an oxyacetylene torch so i'll find a shop.
what would cause the metal to warp? the thin metal, operator error, or both?

just find someone to mig or tig it. either way you will have to grind it down. or if you use bondo you will have to sand. the holes are very small. if you use a bondo get something that has some type of fiberglass in it also.

u can slowly fill in the holes from behind then smear some bondo on the front and sand it down to smoothen it. key is to tack slowly so you dont over heat the thin sheet metal.

or you can weld it from the front then grind it down with an angle grinder, same idea

weld them with a mig/grind/skim coat of duraglass and filler/block sand/prime

if you weld them correctly you wont need duraglass or bondo, only self etching primer

yep you're right. i know how to use the torches to weld steel and copper. No experience with tig/mig. I'm getting a garage soon i'll have a place to practice.

ken- you shouldn't have too much trouble, those holes are fairly small. Just go slow and don't get that metal too hot. Honda uses very thin metal and you'd be surprised how easily it will start warping on you. Go slow with the grinder too, that will warp the metal also.

Definitely MIG them. The TIG is just too much heat and it's tough to jump gaps. Use .023 wire, low heat, and just repetitively pop on one of the edges until you build up to the other side.
