Default TypeOne Install Went Nowhere

I thought I was home free after not breaking a sweat gettting the catalytic conv. heat shield off but damn, I was wrong. I couldn't get the lock (f*ck) nuts that connect the cat to the b-pipe to budge even after soaking it with WD40. I want to get this TypeOne on before next weekend so I can get some dyno numbers for it. I've gone through the search and I was wondering if the anti-seize and liquid wrench stuff I've been reading about will do better than the WD40?

Try Liquid Wrench. Those fasteners can be a bitch and they will strip or shear quite easily. Good luck.

You might want to give another heavy soaking and leave it overnight. A wrench with a very long handle may also help.

Got a torch handy (and I don't mean a flashlight).

I don't like the idea of a torch near the car. I just have a jack and 2 jackstands which I think gives me enough clearance to do this install. Where can I buy this Liquid Wrench junx?

I can appreciate that!

I once burned through the fuel lines of my jeep!

Save yourself the trouble and get the wizzy wheel on those bolts and then go out to HOME DEPOT and pick a few new ones, possibly ones that would not rust as quickly.

a.) What's a wizzy wheel?
b.) How do I know which bolts don't rust as fast? They all look the same to me.

Drop the cat and b-pipe as one section...that third nut is a pain in the *** to get to. The cat to header connection is very easy though... Once you get the cat/b-pipe off, it will be very easy to get the bolts off.

Either that or you have to get some kind of impact wrench. Most air wrenches use a lesser amount of pressure...but they do it in a very repetitive manner...that will break them loose. You can do the same thing with your hand...without the wrench. Just make sure that the wrench is on there really well...and tap it over and over for a while...just the simple jolts from the taps will break it loose faster than a consistent hard pressure.

I actually thought of doing what you suggested but I also had an issue with the two bolts that connect the bpipe to the muffler. I didn't think it would be possible to get the whole cat/bpipe/muffler assembly out from under the car w/o disconnecting the muffler from the bpipe.

pay someone to pull the bitch off, get it on a hoist and have them use an impact gun. Won't cost much much at all. Don't be yanking on those bolts too hard if they are seize up, the car can start swaying back and forth and can come down on you. not worth it.

The only reason I'm trying to do it myself is so that I can say that I did it myself. I get a kick out of bolting on my own junk to my car. I have a friend that owns a car shop so getting someone to do it for free is possible. If all else fails, I'm going to ask him to just loosen the bolts for me. Then I can do the install when I get home from his shop.

The car shouldn't be swaying if it is supported properly, if it is swaying then go buy beer and stick to drinking, leave wrenching to someone else...

Go ahead and use a propane tourch on the bolts.. You don't have to heat them for long, and just heat the bolts, not the fuel lines, oil pan, electrical wires etc and you will be fine... and you do not have to get them cherry red or anything like that... about thirty seconds of direct heat should be enough.. if you leave the tourch on them too long, the heat will transfer to the bolts and they will expand as well, making the nuts tighter again... know what I mean?

Age has nothing to do with mechanical ability. Also if you're trying to brag, installing an exhaust is nothing.

Cool. Though it may hurt his self esteem to know that a 17 year old could do it with less hassle.

Is the Liquid Wrench stuff a totally different animal than WD40? I got enough cans of crap in my garage that's been used only once and I don't need to add to the collection. I want to make sure that Liquid Wrench has abilities beyond that of WD40.

WD 40 is not made to loosen bolts... it is made to lubricate...

Buy some Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster... then buy a torch.... then buy a good floorjack with some heavy duty jackstands that dont let the car move at all... then do the install...
