is there a way to find if dealer worked on the car via VIN?
I know they can look it up for any open recalls, but can they see if it has been serviced by a honda dealership beforehand?
2nd or 3rd owner of the vehicle, just had timing belt/balance shaft belt/water pump/ various oil seals changed... requested to keep old parts so I know that they have done the service.
well, the dealer tech @ burns honda /marlton nj forgot to install a new front crannk seal & cam oil seal retainer plate (they were still in the packaging!) I'll haveta goback & schedule an appointment to get these done.
NE ways, the old parts they removed look like they've been replaced already. the old tensioners were the only ones that felt old...

American Honda may be able (or willing) to tell you if a specific car ever showed up for repairs at a specific Honda Dealership; but their records would only reflect warrantee repairs. The Dealers are NOT required to report customer paid maintaince or repairs to American Honda (such as a timing belt replacement)

If the dealers are owned by the same person, a lot of times they will use one large database. I know that the only way my dealer knows about repairs I did at another honda dealer is if I tell them.
Honda does not keep a national database for anything other than recall information.
Sometimes if you are lucky you will find a business card of the dealer who sold the car in the first place or the original sticker. If you have either one of those things, you can usually ask the dealer and they will most of the time be up front and tell you if the car was serviced by their company.

thanks for the prompt replies; i'm going to get a free carfax soon & will contact the nearest dealers to the registration records

now, can some1 here look up the labor hours it takes to do this job?
honda of princeton quoted me $590 while burns honda of marlton $522.50 + I had an online coupon they agree to match to bring it down to under $500 total...
I just want the breakdown of the labor rates so I can just educate myself...
& possibly get more of a refund back since they omitted these items. I'll crack open the plastic timing cover to see if the balance shaft retainer's there from the previous owner's service.
(ya, i shoulda got a Helms/tools/an experienced helper-buddy to do this job; but didn't have the time-impact gun to loosen that crank bolt)

Actually, thats not correct for at least these two items..
Warranty History
Radio security codes
GM, Honda (and other manufacturers) keep warranty repair info for (I believe) ten years. This is for Dealer Warranty Expense auditing, Vehicle Warranty Expense auditing, Lemon Law, Last Recorded Owner, Campaign Notification and other purposes.
The Radio codes issue we're all familiar with.

I ran a VIN status and the car is Honda certified. So If your last name is Luciano your powertrain is atleast covered for a while longer. Just go to your dealer and substitute your last name for Luciano and you can get some stuff under warranty still. The car was sold from dealer 207200 on 6/28/1995. And you have an open recall (a/c wire). Also your car has no warranty repair history. That's about all i can get hope it helps.
