1990 Civic SI(Broken Ignition Cylinder)
Hi, I am new here, and I did some searching and I can't find anything on this. I have two problems. First of all, I can put my key in the ignition and pull it back out. However, it will not turn at all. I have removed everything from the steering wheel and dash. I just do not know where to go from here. The Haynes manual that I have is not helping me very much. They only have one, hand drawn picture of the ignition cylinder. How do I remove this? Also, does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for the ignition switch? There are 5 wires that are sodered to it, and another two wires that are in a plastic housing that screw into the bottom of the ignition.
Also, after having some work done to my car, the cold air intake didn't get remounted. When the hood was shut, the metal from that tube came into contact with the positive battery post. It was on there for maybe 20 seconds and there was alot of smoke. After I adjusted and mounted that, I tried to start it. Everything was fine, no warning light and no problems starting. I drove for about a mile, stoped at a stop light, when I took off from the light and shifted into second, the car shut off. I tried to restart it but all it would do is turn over, it would not start up. I then opened the hood and checked some things and I noticed that the ground wire form the valve cover to the frame was burnt and broken in two. I fied that with some wire that I had and got into the car to restart it and that is when I realized that the key wouldn't turn.
Please help if you can, this is the only transportation that I have right now. Either post back on here or send me an email to andrew.elledge@mckessonaps.com.
Thank you in advance for your help!!!!!!

the ignition cylinder is attached to the steering column with screws whose heads break off when they are installed and torqued down. you have to notch what is left of the screws to get them out, which is easiest usually by removing the whole column, but possible leaving it in the car. the wires that are soldered to the cylinder all go to a plug that you can disconnect.
check your fuses to see if any of them are blown on your electrical issue.

I have already checked all of the fuses in the car, and all of them are fine. As far as the removing the lock cylinder, I have already taken the switch harness off of the back of it. I am also in the process of drilling out the rivits that hold it to the collum. I am planing on wiring some switches and or buttons in instead of replacing the key lock. What I need to know is how do I identify the wires on that switch and how do I hook them up to switches to start my car?
