Is ITR theft still really bad?

I've been out of the Integra community for 3 years and recently have been looking to get a beater car to drive on rainy days. I noticed that ITR's have come down a lot (~$13k) and I was wondering if theft and inssurance rates on them are still really bad?
If you use an ITR as a beater (ie. drive it everywhere) in a place where imports are popular, it will get stolen.
Sadly, thieves will steal them until there are no more to be stolen.

I always wanted a ITR since I once had a GSR
nice to see some old SN's still around

Unfortunatly that is not an option for me right now, I'm looking at either buying a used ITR or possibly a used EVO/STI as a daily driver.

china? they know what integra type R's are, and theft is more rampant there....lots of "civic type fakes" there.

The fewer they are the rarer they get. The rarer they get the more desirable they'll be. The more desirable they are the more it'll get stolen. So ITR thefts aren't getting better, if anything it'll get worse.

Banging on wood with a sledge hammer, we havent had one pop up here in a bit.
To daily drive your asking for problems. One day you will come out to it and it wont be there.

It doesnt seem 1/10th as bad as it used to be.
There used to be 1-2 new threads a day about ITRs getting stolen. Not so much any more.
Personally I've put 100,000 miles on mine, driven it everywhere with no problem.
I think from a theives perspective, a new ITR engine for free sounds good. A free 70-100k mile engine is probably not worth their effort/risk.

That's a matter of perspective. Ask someone who had his R stolen, and the theft rates will seem 2x as worse to him. As ITR numbers dwindle due to theft, accidents, etc., Ii'd guess the per capita rate of theft is probably the same or higher than ever.
Didn't something like 4 model years of the 3rd gen integra make the most recent top 10 most stolen cars list? If a type r and a gs-r are parked side-by-side, which car do you think a thief will go after?

Last time I looked pretty much every model year Integra was in the top 20 most stolen.
However, it IS possible to daily drive one and not have it stolen.
I've daily driven mine for 4 years and 4 months without a problem.

Daily driving here, no problems. And I agree that the number of posts about cars being stolen has dwindled. I think the cars aren't getting stolen as often because more attention is being paid to other cars like the STi and Evo.

Call your insurance company and they can tell you how much it would cost you to insure a Type R of a given year.

I think the definition of Daily Drive is different between people. I daily drive mine, but that means from my garage at my house to a secured parking garage at work(government). Ocasional stops at the honda dealership, gas station, friends houses, and maybe a grocery store now and then. Now if my cousin would DD it, that would mean parked at the mall for 8 hours a day, community college for a few hours, movie theatre, bars, night clubs, etc.....
unfortunatley ALOT of us still and never be able to enjoy our cars like we would like to because of where we live. i'll never park my ITR where it's not in eyes vision and i never go anywhere in it with out my buddy Rugar.
as far as insurance rates go, i got kind of lucky i guess, before i actually purchased my R back in November of 2000 i was calling around getting insurance quotes and i must have called 10 places and got anywhere from $490 a MONTH to $800 a month, yeah "WTF"... then i went to lowestpremiums.com, submitted a few pages of information, and came back with Allstate being the lowest with $269 a month. was very happy with that. turning 25 a few years ago and adding a 98 EK hatch along with a 2005 TSX as well as my 2001 R, my policy with all 3 cars is only $305 a month, very very good if you ask me

I couldn't agree more. When I Daily Drove mine it was similar to yours, mostly to and from work, and very secure parking lots, with little to no outside travel, never malls, never markets and never unattended. It depends on how smart you treat the car and how much of a target you make yourself. If you hang out with a bunch of teen to twenties ricers and go show your car off every Friday night at the local mall or street races, you're bound to attract loads of the wrong attention, and unfortunately even if you drive relatively safely you'll still attract negative attention, although not as much as in previous years.
It is entirely possible that thefts are dwindling but so too are the R's. And there was a time when I knew almost all of my local owners. Now the cars that are left have changed hands and the new owners aren't here to announce theft, damage or sales. As this community progresses, many theft victims have moved on and many new folk aren't as active or community aware for whatever reason.

Two other comparison websites that get quotes from multiple companies and are also worth checking are Insweb.com and Insure.com.

I would say no for the following reasons
1) There just isn't too many left - how many real ones do you see driving around?
2) Better and faster cars have come out since 96/97
3) ITR owners are PARANOID
a) they don't let cars out of their sight.
b) they have decent or excellent alarm systems.
4) Many R engines are beat up, high milage, and/or are not even R motors. I've seen many B18c1s and even dare I say B16s in type Rs.
5) People tend to drive Rs as "weekend" or "summer" cars, so they just aren't being put in spots where they can be taken. (I guess this feeds into point 1 lol)
BUT DON'T FOOL YOURSELF, LEAVE IT SOMEWHERE STUPID, NO MATTER WHAT ALARM OR IF ITS EVEN BROAD DAYLIGHT YOUR CAR WILL GET JACKED!
My buddy had his jacked outside of his work during broad daylight a year ago.
there is my 2 cents

I think that it's still bad. I just checked the DB for reported thefts of ITR's. The numbers seem down, but that could be for two factors:
The numbers could be down right now because of winter. This will have to play out for us to see once Spring and Summer come along. We may start reading more threads about stolen ITR's then.
The other factor could be because of data integrity on the db that I'm checking. It seems as if the numbers of stolen Integras as a whole are pretty consistent, however, when searching for specific model by "ITR" or "type R" the numbers are a bit lower as contrasted to 6 months ago. This leads me to believe that claims agents aren't being very descriptive with the types of Integras models they are entering into the system.

Thats the way I feel. So I drive the crap out of mine. I figure the more miles I put on the car, hopefully that will make it less desireable to thieves. Plus I live in Omaha Nebraska where theft isn't a huge issue.

really, come on, do you REALLY think a Honda thief is going to break into your car, look at your odometer, see that it has 100,000 miles and turn away?? i don't think so... the ITR is a gold mine to Honda thieves, not just the motor, but the interior, suspension, brakes, everything... the amount of miles your R has has 0 to do with anything if a thief spots your car...
