Default How safe is the Del Sol?

Hello, i'm new to the board, just looking for some information about the car. I had one when I was 16 and now I am helping someone else that is looking at one. I can't find crash test ratings anywhere. Anyone know them? Is it safe to assume that if you get hit in a Del Sol you are pretty much dead? Thank you for any information you can give me.

Are you serious? Do you think Honda would sell a vehicle that was that unsafe? You think a Del Sol would be worse than a CRX?

I'm assuming it would be as safe as any Civic of that year.

I was exaggerating about the dying if you get hit part. I just know that some cars are safer than others and just want to know how the Del Sol rates.

I looked into all that when I purchased mine. As far as crash ratings, yes it is as safe as just about all other civics of the same generation. They are real little overlooked gems. You oughta' ****** it out from under this "friend", haha. Just kidding, I wouldn't condone such an act.

front rating is 4
side is 3
rear is 0
all are out of 5. Not a safe car if u flip it or get hit/hit something with the top off. Although it has a roll over bar (technically), it is safer than most convertibles for flip over, but im just wondering what would keep if from crunching up in the middle...

del sol's safety in a crash is inversely proportional to the number of 6000 lb suv's sold every year. so basicly, not good, but not really any worse than a civic either.

It's not safe....if you are driving around without the top and you (or your passenger) is standing on the seat acting stupid. Any car is not safe at that point, OP.

I remember hearing about a guy who wrecked in one and it tore in half and his feet were on the ground after. But I guess that could happen in any car.

Amazing what 5 minutes on Google can find, if you know how to search correctly.

Search phrase "1996 Civic Del Sol IIHS"

Cliffs, since it's a bunch of technical mumbo-jumbo:
Compared to sports cars, you are slightly more likely to be injured in a crash in a Del Sol than you would be in another sports car (103:100)
Compared to sports cars, you are slightly more likely to be in an accidently in a Del Sol than you would be in another sports car (110:100)
Compared to sports cars, your car is considerably more likely to be stolen than another sports car (156:100)

If you compare the numbers to a Civic coupe, you are considerably less likely to be injured in the Del Sol (103:127) but you are more likely to be in an accident (110:98) and your car is, once again, more likely to be stolen (156:72).

This is all based on now-historic and statistical numbers, not crash tests.
