Has anyone ever raced a turbo dodge omni?
The other day I watched a turbo omni whip a B16 CRX. Anyone ever beat one of these things? Also I heard its an 8 valve? Whats up with that? It's an ugly car but the lightness to power ratio thing reminds me of a modified CRX.
Not that this will help much, but I saw one run at an SCCA autocross in DC. The driver was ridiculusly good, possibly one of the best there. He had work done to his car- the noticable were a repositioned intake, and side exhaust (it didnt appear "street legal"). Anyways, that thing was freakin quick. I think he was running R-Comps; he had times right up there with vipers, and lotuses. Basically, it was real quick- as far as a stock omni, im not sure how fast it is.
Stock omni has 90 hp 125 pounds of torque at 4000 rpm with the tbi.
With the turbo 1 its like 145hp and 150 torque
stock turbo two "glhs" is 175hp, 200 pounds
racing omnis get out of hand just like crx can
One night I had a dream I had a crx with the dodge turbo 2 drivtrain. Probably weighs the same as a h22 but would be pretty interesting to see (out of my dreams). You can get the drivetrain for like 300 dollars.
the omni weighs between 2000 and 2300

The dodge omni that was in the, Sport Compact magazine? I think it was sport compact. Or super street, or whatever. The one that is the cheapest money with the most power. That guy races at Irwindale speed way and gets like low 8's all day. Hes crazy fast, Super sleeper. And he built all his **** himself and pieced together everything and paid I think like $3000 for the car and like 320+ whp. Hes a cool guy. An old man that woops on alot of **** at the track.
My coworker owns one.. Runs 20 lbs on it all day.. breaks trannies every 3 weeks and the car is down for a month after.. HE OWNED the streetracing scene in Hartford Ct for along time..
hmm.. the van i seen had a big tranny cooler i didnt ask what else it had done to the tranny but he was running a big turbo and clocking twelves and said he wasn't having tranny issues at the time.
I have video from a local track day of one running mid 12's. It was very much a sleeper. It is in a compilation video so i will edit it out and post it up.

The autos are tough to break, the 5-speeds on the other hand are made of glass.

ok I was bein sneaky in the first post. I have a dodge omni thats awaiting the turbo 2 drivtrain installed. Didn't know what honda people thought of them. I like hondas, dodge, pontiacs, ford you name it. It all justs depends on the car.
Although the turbo omni is different from hondas in rpms and power. Takes some getting used to but im sure anyone would appreciate it.
My favorite thing is the sleeperness of the omni. Compared to a honda which is hard to pull off. No one attempted to race my prelude but the omni gets teased constantly becasue of misconseptions. So when its finished, the omni will enjoy whipping just about anything.
Plus ill have a 12 sec car for about 500 dollars

I understand the sleeper effect. There was a time when you could pull that off with a honda, but even these days I have a hard time getting domestics to bite on my N/A EM-1 coupe. No signs of forced induction and still people are scared of the hondas because u never know what your gonna get when u race one!
Good luck with the omni!

Carl Buchbinder runs a Dodge shelby (it may be the charger though) and in PW/s trim at Atco he was going 11.70's. he told me it's a very simple setup (near stock) and I think he was using Megasquirt (looked like a DIY EMS setup on the floor
) . Nonetheless, I was impressed.

I got a vid or two from a Battle of the Imports in VA from several years ago of a black GLH with a silver door killing it!!! He made several rounds on it actually and it ran pretty consistent all day (automatic) I almost made $50 of some morons in front of me on a bet. They started laughing when it pulled up the the line against a turbo'd b16 CRX. Needless to say I took the Omni and it walked the dogs on that CRX but the dudes didnt pay up!!!!
