Prelude for first car?
Im 16 and thinking of a first vehicle. Im considering a 93-95 Prelude, 93-1997 Civic or a CRX but due to my limited budget im not sure whats the best one to go with..i like the look of the prelude and the fact it has 160 horses but i also need reliablity since its my first car...any advice??
a prelude is a lot nicer than a civic...and it shouldn't be any less reliable than the other two. if you're gunna rice your car out or go around racing people, get a civic... there's no point wasting a perfectly good prelude.
and you're posting in the prelude section, so your responses might be biased.

all preludes are front wheel drive. and that was the si 4ws that did that... and it's not a problem, it's meant to do that. most preludes don't have that feature.

Yeah, there's tons of stuff. You can even get cheap parts to make it faster. Ultimately, the speed/performance of your car will be based on your ability to drive and the combination of modifications. That said, if you're 16 and a 190hp 4th gen Prelude Vtec isn't enough for you, then you need to re-evaluate your opinion of how good a driver you are.

reliability is more dependent on YOUR ability to properly maintain your car and the amount of abuse it takes. If you cheap out on PMs and beat the **** out of it, it WILL break.

$1,000 Canadian? Isn't that, like 300 bucks US? Just kidding. You can do an intake/exhaust combo with decent parts for that.
But if $1k CDN is a lot of money to you, then you're probably looking at higher mileage used Hondas. That being the case, you should spend that first $1k on PMs and worry about performance later.

My Lude is my first car, great choice imo. Keep in mind that any car that age is going to need some upkeep, if 1k is all you want to spend take half of that and set it aside for when you NEED it, because you will. Take the other half of the money, get a valve adjust, change the oil and tranny fluid, check belts, cap, rotor, plugs wires, etc... Then with the money left over think about mods.
As far as your other car choices, the Lude blows them away. Its interior quality and solid feel can't be matched by the civic or rex. I sit in my car...the seats hug me, the shifter is solid with no play, the steering has no play, the pedal feel is great. I get in my girls 2000 civic the shifter is sloppy, the plastic is cheaper, the steering has some slop, and the car just feels...cheap. Its not just about the car being fast, its about the whole experience, and the Lude brings that experience to a higher level. Yeah so I like my car......

Prelude is a very good car. Its not designed to be a drag car and break records. It was made as a solid, clean and reliable car. The looks and quallity of the prelude far outwieght how fast u can get ur civic up to. Preludes are not slow either. With the right mods you will have a very quick car if you can drive.
Go with the lude. prelude is my first car and i absoulty love it. kicked 280k miles no mechanical problems then i swapped with jdm h22. just for reference preludes went from 92-96. and like the earlier guy said learn to drive it before you build/race it. again go with the lude over civic got ne questions about the lude ask ill tell
The lude was my first car and is by far my favorite. I've had a number of other hondas including a del sol, civic si, and accord lxi. I just love the styling on it and for some reason i never get tired of driving it.
prelude is a good car understaind that the matinance on it is slightly more than your average civic or integra, would compare it slighty with the accord but still a pinch more. Parts are a tad bit but not much more to get especially the VTEC equipped models. The prelude is a fun underated car I would recomend it
preludes my third car and by far my favorite. it's probably one of my favorite cars i've ever driven.
