NO,...
you can go as high as 7k for regular driving just dont pound the gas pedal.
Racing is when you go really high on the RPM and you floor it like you stole it.

Regular driving is the same for me... putting my b16 through it's paces I'll shift around 7600-7700. Shifting at or below 3000 makes my car feel slower than it usually is anyway. When I'm doing some spirited driving I'll shift around 5600-6000. I usually just do that to make my brother jealous when he's riding with me.

Regular driving before 3k. When I just wanna get on it a little I might take it up to 5 or 6. I never race so I can't answer that

what do u drive? it kinda depends. my girlfriends civic ex likes to shift at like 2000 rpm or so around town, my Si has a closer ratio trans and doesnt like to driven at such low rpms, as far as shifting at the high end, shift right before redline/rev limiter kick in

i like vtec so i tend to shift literally right as it engages, right when you hear the sound and feel the power i shift... that's daily driving for the most part. when i race it's different, over my time spent with my car i've come to feel when i'm loosing power so i shift right before that. hard to explain but it works.
