Default Oil change.

Using Mobil 1, its my first change, I was suggested 5 and a half quarts of oil. Anyone back that up? I think that is a lil excessive. Much thanks

it says 5.1 quarts with filter for both AP1 and AP2
it says 5.9 quarts when doing full overhaul of engine (rebuild)

easiest way to get this right:

- emtpy out all oil
- replace filter, don't forget to put some oil on the seals of the filter
- pour in 5 quarts
- wait awhile
- check dipstick and find out how much more you need to reach the max marker
- fill up whats needed and recheck the dipstick

all done

It's 4.8 quarts for an oil change, 5.1 quarts for a complete overhaul (dry, newly assembled motor).

From these conflicting responses I am beginning to wonder if we are all talking about the S.

Fack. I put oil in checked the dip stick after warming the car up and at 5 qts it was still somewhat low. so i added a bit more like 1/2 qt to get it to the top line. If it is indeed too much then i will run the risk of the oil foaming correct? what other adverse things can happen? Should i drain all the oil out and pour in only 5 qts? Or can i kinda of tilt the jacks on one side and drain out a quart. =-(

if you check the oil and it is not over the max line of the dipstick, you are fine. if you are over then you may cause some foaming.

Yeah, I have the service manual as well. 4.8.

5.1 for a complete overhaul. 5 seems too much, my dipstick met the max bar with 4.8 just fine. I refuse to overfill.

mobil 1 should not be used until you have at least 10k mi on your car. I use 5.5 quarts(but I have a supercharger). so when I reach 12k I will switch to M1 oil. I belive it has something to do with breakin.
