the window is the biggest savings, but i want to know the real difference in the hatch too. i have 2 cf hatches in my garage. i'll weigh em if someone will come up with a windowless metal hatch to weigh (mine has a window in it, and i'm not taking it out).

If you're talking about the CRX, the CF hatch doesn't save a lot of weight. Around 2lbs IIRC. It's super expensive too - good for the looks and bling factor but probably not for weight savings.

ok- i've heard this too many times by people without a hatch in their hands. i want numbers. someone get in here and weigh a sock hatch without a window so we can lay this **** to rest.

yay

the problem isn't weighing the cf hatch- i have 2. and shipping weight doesn't mean real weight.

the issue is that i dont have a glassless oem hatch to weigh.

Youd save a lot of weight with a plexiglass window. Id say theres a 400 pound weight difference from glass.

On a practicality level, I think lexan rear glass would be a significant weight savings for little money, compared to the cost of CF... besides, losing weight back there is not as helpful as up front.

Thats true. too bad they don't have the defroster in the back of them. It also helps with the hatch struts if the hatch is light since thos things are super expensive.

if you are worried about cost or defrosting, i wouldn't recommend plexi.

$20.00 per strut is super expensive???? just got to autozone and save some bucks! It's not like you would really sacrifice Honda quality on a part like that.

what i was trying to say is that lexan or a moulded plastic window probably isn't the best choice for a car that yu are worried about using a defroster on, or on a car where a hatch strut might be out of the budget.
