Default Oil Temp Guage... Working But Then Drops?

Well bascially my oil temp guage rasises to normal operating temp when the car is stationary, but as soon as i drive the car down the road the temp needle drops to min.

When stationary at traffic lights it will raise back up again slowly?

Thermostat related?

Heres a few pics i took yesterday of my siR. Maybe seeing my car will make you help me LOL...

Cheers all,

Ryan

So even if the thermostat was f**ked, it would still raise to normal operating temp when stationary?

Your thermostat, or the seal around it, is stuck open. This happened to me too. Normally, the Tstat stops coolant flow when the temp is below 180F, and opens at 180 to cool the motor. It opens and closes to maintain a constant operating temperature. What's happening now is that it's stuck open, always running coolant through the motor, so it can't reach operating temperature unless you are sitting, when the radiator isn't being cooled by air. Replace the thermostat and it will be fixed ($10). Also I find that in the winter mine will get really cold if I'm on the highway, but only when I'm going pretty fast and it's really cold out.
