***Gas Leak!!! Noooooooooo!!***
Some one please help.. My 89 hatch is leaking gas from the tank. i dont know exactly from where, but i see a trail slowly trickling from the top.. its not a serious leak.. but the only problem is that i want to get my exhaust welded but the shop wont touch it cuz of the leak. someone help, i was told to u JB Weld but i cant find the source of the leak, could it be somewhere near the fuel pump? filler neck? HELP!!! i dont want to drop the tank without having an idea of what to look for.
I had a gas leak after I drained out the gas out of my tank from the drain plug. Crush washer had to be replaced so you might want to check there first. It should be relatively easy to find the leak because it will be wet from were it's leaking from. If worse comes to worse you'll have to drop the tank.

My tank rotted out and leaked at the back with anything more than a half tank. I just spent the $200 CAD and bought a new one. I had to cut the straps so I replaced those as well. It was amazing how much **** was in the bottom of the old one.
the funny thing is it leaked half full...then it still leaked at 1/4 full...but it leaked from all the way at th etop, i kno i have to drop it but i wont be able to until sunday.. thanks for the help though, i heard someone mention the crush washer b4 so ill check it out, thanks
if its leaking when its 1/2 full and 1/4 full just as bad its probaly a pressure line check the lines above the tank... get under it and have someone turn on the key and see if its leaks like that... if you cant realy see because of the dark just use a lighter for a light sorce...
i've got the same problem, i havent had time to check it yet but i have a friend w/ a 91 std hatch and his leak is coming from the the rubber around the filler neck. you might want to take apart the interier above the tank and check there before messing w/ the tank.
lol, whatever you do just be careful. Gas leaks are
. JB weld will work very well in this situation. My advice however is to drop the tank, drain it, find the leak, clean it, JB weld, let it cure, then lay some of the best silicone adhesive you can find over it just to be sure

I've gone through 2 leaks and god knows why I haven't dummped the shell back then. first one was a leak from the return line. Very easy fix, just cut the piping and connect with APPROPRIATE type of rubber fuel injected hose.
Don't be afraid to dropp the tank. you may have to get a set of new J-bolts that tighten the straps. I had to. they where too far rusted.
My second leak to my surprise was at the pressure line. This is probably gonna hit every one on this forum with a civic that's driven in cold winters. The location of the leak is right below the seat, right at the point where the line goes from the outside to the inside of the car through the rubber gromet. This piece of $hit holds all the dirt and moisture and the honda protection that is over the line ends (to my surprice honda engineers fu$$ed up here) vertically, virtually allowing the moisture to penetrate it. Take a look at it. IF that's your problem, hit my PM and I"ll shoot some pictures...
