Default Power Steering...Yay or Nay?

Well im getting my Euro-R put in my Prelude tomorrow and am still debating if i should ditch power steering or not. I've never driven a prelude without power steering. Is it really that much of a pain in the *** to drive a heavy *** lude without power steering or do you guys think it's ok and i should just do away with it? I really wanna get the extra power from removing it but this is my daily driver so i'm still not sure what I should do....I'm leaning toward ditching it. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Yes you should but you can't just loop the lines like these guys are doing on here other wise when you turn the wheel you have to compress the fluid by hand. You need to make it a "more true manual rack" which is what I did two days ago I am thinking of doing a how to but it is not for the mechanically uninclined in any way and if you motor is going to be out then that's the time to do it. I did it with the motor installed just to see how hard it would be and it was a bitch to remove the steering lines to say the least. Wanna know more?

Wow you can remove it and gain a whole two horsepower. Just keep it so you will enjoy your car more. And yes I have had two 'Ludes...one come without power steering and I drove it like that for a few months but it really become pointless if you're looking for power gain. Get AEM Pulleys if you want to get power.

i've been debating whether or not to drop mine. everyone's whos done it, wouldnt go back to having the power steering. i took my belt off just to see how hard that would be...but i heard that it'd be easier if you make it manual. i cant say that i can really feel any gains. the engine revs a little better...that's it.

if you think it's going to make enough difference to have to deal with muscling the wheel around. in the end it's up to you.

you guys are full of misinformation

the gains are more like 8whp, you find me a cheaper way to get 8whp and ill take it

underdrive pullies are a joke and a half, aem and unothodox and all that bs....just take out the power steering and bulk up, its not bad

besides, if you do it right and actually convert the rack to manual its not even bad....go whine some more

not to mention not having it gives you better feel for how your car turns

i'm not sure if i'm going to go to a fully manual rack, or allow it to breathe, using a reservoir...both ideas sound good...any suggestions gags?

I'm going to have to explain why I did it I guess. Yes there's a slight hp gain probably like 5-8 I actually have AEM pulleys and yes that made a gain too I don't see why anyone would say it doesn't. Would you buy a lightweight flywheel? Well it's the same on a slightly smaller scale allowing the engine to rev quicker and freeing up some torque. Next if you do it to save weight you will only lose approximately 20lbs according to my bathroom scale. When I was done I put everything in a box and weighed it. True 20lbs is not a lot but it is 20lbs that will NEVER be in the car again ever under any circumstances. That also means you can have almost 3 more gallons of gas on board and only weigh the same. (Gal of gas is about 8lbs) So that means anyone with the exact same car will always be slower everywhere than me especially under braking and during acceleration out of a corner. I'd also like to comment on the guy that said it would ruin the resale value. Your right but why are you going to sell the car? Why did you buy it in the first place then? I don't think many die hard Prelude fans ever want to sell their car as it is such a capable vehicle even stock and modifyied versions are on par with cars that cost 2-3 times the price. Preludes are the only true FWD sports car worth owning except a Type-R or maybe Celica GTS (The new ones). Anyways my car has the best road feel out of any Prelude I have driven and I've driven countless customer cars plus this is the third time I've owned a BB4. I have KYB AGXs and Neuspeed race springs ES master kit and all the bars you can buy. The tires are not even all that special but you would have a hard time driving it and finding the limit of the car(at least most people) would be afraid to drive on an on-ramp anywhere near the speeds capable to make the tires talk. This is what I live for fast cars with uber handling braking and road feel. hp takes the back seat to a well prepared car. I can see all your points as far as not doing it I used to be the same way but now I'm on a quest to build cars that aren't what everybody thinks I should do just to build cars that deliver results and to me that means winning whatever it is you do with your car. BTW I will probably be gutting the rear half of the car to put a roll bar in. Most people would say this is stupid but maybe it's just not for you. But that does make you a puss in my book but that's just my opinion.

I'm working on it. I'm afraid it will be pretty big it may turn into an issue of whether or not I can even transmit it to a mod to put up as most email can't handle files that big.

you idiots show me evidence that it is not 8whp and i will gladly back down, until then, rotate those thumbs down and jam them in your rearholes, howard and brad both said it was good for 8whp, and that was on their dynapack....which reads super low

skidtron if there is anything i can do to help you get this thing up i will, i have plenty of email storage, and can host plenty also, let me know

im on aim all night, mgags7
