Default Went drag racing last night...kind of dissapointed

I went to Atlanta Dragway last night ( saw another black ITR with I think bolt-ons and wheels ) It was my first time ever. People we're telling me that the track was really slick that night but I personally think it's just an excuse. Then again it may have not have been cause many of the cars were not running what I though they would. Then again...some of this may have been driver skill which is clearly the reason in my case. whatever...these are my times.

1st run ( banged on the rev limiters and spun throughout 1st)
R/T .710
60 ft 2.6
1/8 mile 10.497 @ 70.86
1/4 mile 15.831 @90.91
I raced a Civic Hatch with a ITR engine swap...he ran a 14.598 @ 95.34 but he redlighted.

2nd run ( Grinded going into 2nd, feathered clutch too much)
R/T .872
60 ft 2.532
1/8 mile 10.079 @ 72.23
1/4 mile 15.449 @ 90.18
I raced a SS Camero Convertable (new body with LS1)...he ran a 13.356@105.39

3rd run
R/T 1.045 ( was I sleeping?)
60 ft 2.425
1/8 mile 9.877 @ 72.46
1/4 mile 15.227 @ 91.09
I raced a 200Sx...he ran a 15.595 @ 88.58

The 3rd run was clearly my best run of the night but there is still much that can be improved. For example, when I tried to launch at 5000 rpms and dump the clutch, spun furiously and bounced off my rev limiter. When I launched from 4000 rpms like in runs 2 and 3, I bogged slightly...on the 4000 rpm ones I tried to slip the clutch out instead of dumping the clutch out. And yes my R/T's ar pretty bad. One concern is why my trap speeds are so low? The slightly moded ITR ran a 15.1ish and trapped at a bit over 93. I thought ITR's trapped at 93-94 stock? Any suggestions for me when I go in 2 weeks again?

It was a lot of fun. I made some observations.
5.0s, GT mutangs, LT1 Cameros/ Trans ams are not that fast...stock or mildly modded ones were only running mid 14's-low 16's depending on driver skill and # of mods. However, a guy know did run a 14.00 @ 100 mph with just a K&N filter and exhaust system for his GT mustang last night. Plus, start modding and some of them can be monsters.

LS1/LS6 cars are FAST. I did not see one that ran slower than a 14.3. My freinds who like me has never gone drag racing before ran a 13.96 on his second try ever. A Z06 vette ran a 12.18 and was kickin some butt.

Most imports just cant keep up in a straight line. Remember though the import scene in Ga is so full of ricers that this may only apply to Georgia. However, I was about the 6th or 7th fastest import there (as of when I left at 8:30pm), which is sad considaring that I am stock and I am inexperienced. A supra was there but sounded like it was having issues...still ran 13's. A prelude ran a 14.1 @ 102...I couldnt hear a turbo or a supercharger and he didnt revv high enough to perhaps be a NA build so I think he had nitrous. Other notables included a low 14 sec miata, the ITR swap black civic hatch, and a I dont know what Civic hatch that ran low 14's. Car that disapointed me is the new Sentra SE-R V-SPEC(I saw a low 16 sec run and someone who goes to my school ran a mid 16). I thought they would run mid to high 15's at least. I'm sure they can but like everyone always says it's all about the driver. Shoot, my friend with a 2.0L non-turbo eclipse with heavy 17's and just intake and exhaust for mods ran a 16.1 at 85 which is better than what some 5.0's ran and also better than the SE-R I saw run.

Anyway, sorry for my ramblings.

Hey man, i saw your car last night and didnt know if you were on here.
I was in front of you a couple times... black civic coupe w/ white RH cp035s.
I got a best of 15.3 @94 mph.....best 60 foot was 2.5 ...arggg...damn crappy tires, i had NO traction last night.
That little h/b is a local guy with Type R swap.
Pretty good times considering.... Reynolds seems to be almost half a second quicker than commerce.
Well i wouldve gotten out and said hey...but i was tired and it was pretty cold..lol.
Hit me up sometime i'd like to see what all stuff you got done to your car.

I have Spec b's, ecu, race header, intake, 2.5" exhaust and vafc, too bad i didnt have traction...doh.

14.5 for a Civic/ITR Hybrid is an awful time.

Like what B2FiNiTY said, your times will get better with practice. The first time my car ran it did a 14.7 stock with less than 2k on it.

It's all in the 60'. If you get that down the rest will come. My first time at the drag it took me about 10 runs to finally hit 14's. I went from a 15.4 to a 14.7 in one night. Traction can be a really big issue. I've ran a 15.7 on the same night I've run a 14.3 just because traction at the beginning of the night sucked and I spun through first and second gear. Learn to feather the gas as well. If you are going to drop the clutch up high don't punch the gas at the same time. Just hold your foot steady and anticipate when they are going to hook up then put it to the floor. Good luck.

your 60 foot times are bad. You need to work on your launch. I dont have a Type R, so I dont know how to launch an R, but you can clearly see your 60 foot times suck. Practice your launch!! BTW, launching on street and drag strip is totally different.

Maybe have one of these

oh, BTW, reaction times dont affect anything at all. It only effects the look of the race. If you have a bad reaction time, you wont have as much of a lead on the other car distance wise, but time wise it doesnt matter.

Only in actual racing does it matter

yes I know my 60 ft times really really suck. I still havent got the launching on the track thing down, but I figure I've only had 3 runs ever so I cant expect o be a god immediately.

The track felt very slick. I seriously could not get traction until right before I shifted into 3rd gear. Someone told me that they do not prep Atlanta Dragway on Friday nights and that plus the fact that it rained 2 nights ago made the track more slick than usual.

I would have liked to meet some of you guys there. Maybe we should have a Honda-Tech ATL Drag meet one day? Would people be interested? I think it would be cool to meet people from the board then go out and have fun drag racing legally

Don't be disappointed. Fastest I time I could get the first time out was like 15.3 @ 90MPH.

Second time I didn't do any better either. 14.9 @ 95MPH. Maybe I should seriously consider playing around with the tire pressures next time around.

I got 14.5 3 times in a row then i got 14.3 on my last run. I figured dropping 2/10s was going to be impossible after running so consistent, but i managed it somehow. I hope to get 14.1 once i get rid of the stock 94 cat/exhuast and a new clutch.

14.5 for a Civic/ITR Hybrid is an awful time.
I have a black 94 Si hatch and it weighs 2400 even w/ it gutted. Weight is the enemy and the Si hatch is the worst of the 92-95's as far as weight goes, the CX, VX, DX all have a 300-400lbs advantage over me(alot). Therefore they are able to run better times w/ same setup. I know my car is heavy and most people dont use the Si hatch to do hybrids b/c of its weight. Once i can afford a CX hatch i'll get it and swap everything over into the lighter chassis.

Hey blykins, do you have the black hatch with a hub on front and delsol wheels on back?...If so, we chatted for a sec didnt we? you also raced me on my first run. I think I asked you what you had in your car, while we were waiting in line. By the way, you were not slow. In fact, you were one of the few imports routinely running 14's. You should have seen the look on domestics fans when you beat this one mustang in your "stock" civic.

johnzm, I saw your car run once while I was talking to my friend in the stands.

yea thats me, i had no idea what it would run and running consistent 14.5 i thought i couldnt get 14.3 but i managed it on my last run and it was my goal so im happy i hit it. I wish i could hear what people said about my runs, im sure some domestic fans were surprised that a "4 banger" can be made quick.

I'll be at auto-x watching, was tony in his hatch at barrett?--he wasnt at commerce so i guess that must've been him, he's the only b20-turbo'd hatch i know of around here, if so, did he race and what did he kill?
