GSR with ls tranny :(
I just bought a gsr swap but the tranny was broken due to a wreck and im going to have to use my ls tranny till i can find one. I just wanted to get some opinions on how it will drive. I know it wont have the acceleration of a gsr but anything else anyone noticed. I found 2 other threads on this topic but they didn't have many replies, hopefully i can get more experiences with this one. thx

good luck with that man... let us kno how it goes because i might be doing the same thing if i cant solve my problem. im going to buy a gsr motor and run it with my ls tranny until i can get a new tranny. i heard it will run fine except your gonna have some long *** gears.

1st and 2nd gears are the same numerically on the GSR and LS tranny. The difference there is the final drive (4.4 vs. 4.26). After that the GSR has shorter 3rd 4th and 5th gears (higher numerically).
I have an LS with a GSR tranny, and yes the difference feels great, but honestly its not that super special. your gsr engine has more than enough grunt to make up for it. if u had a b16 with an LS tranny, then its a different story.

b16s have low torque, esp. for a honda. so they really rely on their short trannies to get them moving. slapping an ls tranny on their is the kiss of death.

Couldn't you just swap cases from the ls to the gsr?? arent they the same?? I ask because i have a jdm itr swap and i recently broke the bolt housing that holds the tranny to the tranny mount. and i thought that it would be cheaper to just get an ls case and swap out the gears and oem lsd. Or can't i do that??
I ran an LS tranny in my gs-r for about 8 months because i couldnt get a hold of a gs-r tranny. It's a big difference but nothing crazy. your car will drive fine but the fourth and fifth are reallly long!!!
good for gas mileage. P.S my third gear went later and i had to always shift from second to fourth but no problems.
Its does suck to have that tranny compared to the gs-r trans but its not realle that bad.
GOOD LUCK

I was wondering about this b/c the wreck cracked the motor mount part of the tranny and some of the housing.

I don't think it would be that hard. In another thread someone was saying all b series trannies are interchangable. so i figure I'll just use the parts i need from the ls tranny and mate it to my ITR tranny. ( I've called around and it seems to run about $550-$600 it change from one case to the other. this is in socal though)

that sucks. 92-93 gsrs come with one of the most saught after trannies. i bet if you've driven it with one, you wouldnt call any ls tranny 'fine.'

probably about the same.

I know that 3rd gear is where the gsr shines, how do you think it would be in the ls? And also what do you guys think i should do while the engine is out (Timing belt, water pump, ect) the engine has 120k on it. thx
I've herd that the gearing on the LS tranny will drop your rpms too low- screwing with your beautiful vtec.
How much of a difference is there between the GSR and ITR other than the LSD? I wonder if it would be better if you went ahead and got the ITR tranny.

ALL US ITR's had the same gearing as B16's did. the 98 up JDM ITR had the 4.78 final drives.
the mileage should improve with a LS tranny if u drive on the freeways a lot. at 80 mph an LS tranny is around 3200-3300rpm and a GSR is 4000, b16 with 4.4 fd is 4500, itr with 4.78 is woooo hiiiigh..
