Are all mufflers created equal?
I need a new exhaust for my '93 Vtec, the stock system is rusted out. I found a shop that will bend me out some 2.5" aluminized steel piping (crimped) for $130 with installation if I bring my own muffler. So my new task/mission, is to find a good sounding good performing muffler. I am partail to dual tips...
My question is, are all mufflers the same? I know that some sound different, and some are more hollow then the others, but what is the a real difference between an $150 performance magnaflow muffler and the $40 performance ebay special? I found muffler on ebay that I am a fan of (i wish the tips were a little bit smaller than 3").

It seems hard to deseminate whether or not a muffler is a performance one or not. I could also purchase a muffler from the shop but I dont know if what they say is performance really is. so I think my best bet is to get it ahead of time.
Let me know what you guys think. Oh yeah, the car has 132,000 miles on it, so there is no real reason to opt for the full stainless stell system which will cost just that much more.

No, not all mufflers are created equal. There is no constitution or bill of rights to protect mufflers from injustice. . . . .
I would rethink the option of getting a full stainless system. I see you are from MA, and if you plan on driving your car year round a mild steel system will begin to rot within a year.
That muffler on ebay looks like garbage and will probably sound like total ***. Pony up some dough and get a real mandrel bent ss catback from a reputable company. If you want a clean, nice sounding exhaust, i think the rs*r exmag or the apexi ws2 are your best options.
Good to see some more people from MA here
