Default Vin # question.

I am looking for a civic hatchback and I found one. I like it everything is good about it. My only problem is I was looking for the vin numbers on the car (fenders, hood, doors, doorjambs, rear bumper, and rear hatch) is it supposed tp have the vin sticker in those locations? My 99 hatch did. I just don't want to buy something that has been repainted. The kid said it was not repainted. Please help.

Thanks

Scott

Look on the firewall, right behind the intake mani., there should also be a vin plate on the dash.
I don't mean to jump to conclusions or anything, but that sounds sketchy. Usually when those have been stripped or scratched, it will be something you'll regret buying.

Yeah I know. There is no mark or anything outlining where the sticker would have been removed.

Thanks for the reply.

So you're saying there ISNT one on the driver side part of the dash? Where the window and dash meet?

It had the vin # on the dash. It had nothing on the door jambs. How could I find out if it came from the factory like that? Could I give Honda the vin # and ask if it was sent out with vin #'s in all of those palces?

Thanks

Theres ways to check for paint jobs. Look for overspray on hard to mask areas. Looking in the door jams, look for a line where they taped it off. Why are you worried about it being painted? I'd worry if it was a macco paint job. Just wondering.

I just don't like to be lied to. I know he is trying to sell the car and all but I would feel better if he just told me it was repainted if infact to his knowledge it was. It might not be repainted, but if he was being dishonest about the paint I would worry about something else on the car he is not being truthful about. I mean the car is super clean no dents or anything everything lines up perfect on the car.

I was looking on autotrader online, and ebaymotors and I found no 96's with the vin # on the front fenders. I have the vin so I will run a carfax and see what I get. Thanks for your input.

There should be a sticker either on the drivers side door jamb or on the door itself (near the latch).

my 96 hb has no vin number on the doors or back hatch. either does my friend. or my brother n law. they have a 97, 98 hb clean title. so he can be telling the truth. but we do have the stckers in the door jams.

The guy said he has the title. I mean the car is really clean inside and out. What would you guys do if you were in my position?

well, what did the Carfax say? I don't know, it does sound a little sketchy though. I personally have never seen a honda w/o the VIN # in the door jamb

was he the only owner of it? Did you ask him about it, i looked in my 97, and they are only stickers, easily removed, if say you think they look ugly.... I don't know, i'd ask him and see what he says. If the dash, and the engine bay match up, i don't really think there woudl be any issues. Other then like you said, may have been in an accident.

yea i was looking at a 93 vx hatch and it wasnt painted either they say but it had no door jamb stickers either. the other vin numbers were on the dash and also on the firewall. they both matched up as well as on the title. but i passed it up for the fact im not taking the chance of buyin a stolen car cuz thats no fun.

He is not the original owner of the car. I am probably going to pass on it.

Thanks again for the input.
