Default Might be buying a beater (Honda crx hf) Swap help please...

Might be buying a crx off my friend and was thinking of maybe putting a b16a into it. How hard is it to do? I had a EG hatch that when I bought it was LS turbo and I blew it up and put a b16a in it with a inline pro turbo setup with the new motor. I am thinking of doing a crx project now with a b16a in it so that I can get into autox. So im wondering how hard is it to put a b16a into a crx and whats it cost for everything you need to swap it in correctly?

thanks

Jason

Costs very greatly, i'm not gunna quote you because i'm not shur about mech work in the states....
Its a pretty easy swap though. Do a search, its easily one of the most popular swaps.

if you are going to do autocross dont worry about engine swaps or horsepower. Just go out learn how to drive on crappy tires, then buy good tires and a good suspension. then once you learn that read the rules for autocross because if it has a b16 I believe it will be in sm2 which is nearly impossible for a crx to compete in.

The problem with this is that unless the car is to be used exclusively for autocross, you are stuck with a slow car as a daily driver (unless the car is already fast out of the box, which no CRX is). And that just plain sucks. This is probably the BIGGEST reason why I have no interest in autocross. I am NOT giving up the ITR! In my book, having a fast daily driver beats having some slow *** car that has trouble climbing hills and merging with traffic, just so that you can race around traffic cones at an abandonded airport once a week (if that).

AGREED.... WELL if thats the case I guess my dreams of auto x is crushed lol.

Ill figure something out with racing the car im sure

How hard is it to put a B series in a CRX. Where do you reccomend on getting all the parts needed for the swap? How pricey is this going to be?

OK, your best bet since you're starting with an HF is to go out and find yourself a wrecked 90-93 integra (preferably 92 or 93 because the engine has slightly bigger cams) because you're going to need a very long list of parts to make it happen, and that is going to be extremely expensive if you have to pick them up from the junkyard or the dealer. Also, the B18A is a plug and play swap no wiring issues to deal with (or at least very few issues) and the performance is very similar to the B16. Hasport's web site has the list of parts but I'll give you the thumbnail overview and my guesstimated price.
Hasport mount kit $500
Left and right teg axels $180 each
Half shaft, varies, probably less than $150 though
Custom shift linkage $200 or so
Throttle cable
Clutch cable
New hubs are needed for HF, maybe even the knuckles (not sure about the knuckles, I put the integra ones on so I could use the teg brakes and rotors.
New front brake lines (old ones may work but are really short and prone to split because they're stretched).
ECU, Engine, trans, $2500 ish
I also used the Booster and Master cylinder from the teg (yes they fit but just barely) and since they are very small on the HF I highly recommend changing this or you'll have a lot of go and no stop.
I'd also put the rear discs from the teg on it so it can stop better.
Upper and lower Radiator hoses
You'll also have to allow for broken parts on the engine you buy (usually TPS sensor, and sometimes Dist) and you want to replace the Timing belt and water pump, and I would do any leaking seals before you put it in.
I'm sure I missed something but that's the majority of it, long story short, much better to buy the integra because you'll have most of the parts you'll need.

OK, I'd still do it that way, then all you'd have to buy would be the B16 and computer, and you could sell your engine to pay for it, or, you could just buy the head and buy hondata and do a LS Vtec. That's how I'd do it.
