hey,
the back of my car has black stuff all over it. it is there even after driving less than 50 miles. my car is stock and the air filter is 3000 miles old. anyone have any ideas?

by any chance did you try that seafoam stuff?

You could be running extremely rich for some reason.......

What would seafoam do ? Destroy the rings. Ive heard its safe though. But i have used it and i didnt really see a difference besides the fact that it clogged my o2 sensors. I got my compression checked after i used it ...150 in all 4. Im not sure if it was like that before though. I should have had it checked prior. Anyway now my idle is funny im not sure if that has anything to do with the seafoam.

 

Seafoam cleans and does a damn good job of it. Why didn't you take out your 02 sensors before running it throught your car?

Yeah. And I've heard that after using the seafoam - the black **** will come out of the exhaust for a few days.......its supposed to loosen the baked on dirt and grime.

 

i get black crap on my back bumper too. you definitely get some from hitting vtec. but i think my car does need to be tuned.

That makes alot of sense now but i checked all the threads and nobody mentioned it. Also on the can itself it says o2 sensor safe. But i guess that means the product is safe, not the carbon that it breaks up. Anyway i cleaned the o2 sensors and they worked fine after.

carb cleaner

black **** on your bumper is common for modified cars. is your car 100% stock, meaning nothing modified, only maintenance work with oem parts?

 

yea only regular maintanence except i bought it with bum clutch so i changed the disk, bearing, and flywheel which were all OEM cept the flywheel is Fidanza. i dont really use vtec either. i still have no idea wuts causing it. any1 got ne more ideas?

Depending on what it's contaminated with, some have had a little success hitting the element with a MAP gas torch flame.

I used a torch. Ive actually heard carb cleaner is not safe.

 

yea id rather not have to clean my sensors...ill hold off on the seafoam for now...im gonna change the air filter tomorrow. should i try fuel injector cleaner?...this is still pissin me off ne more ideas?
