Honda Accord 94 Safety concerns
I have a 94 Honda Accord.. back brake shoes currently micrometer to .063", a mechanic here says they are sufficient to pass a safety for re-sale..but I am a little concerned .. also the LR brake cable is jammed, the 2 rear control arm bushings are weather worn and cracked with some play, there is a leak in the exhaust ring near the fuel tank, the upper right ball joint has play in it that can be wiggled by hand, and there is a small chip in the windshield on the driver's side, 2 marker lights are also burned out...
1. would you consider this vehicle safe for resale in this condition
2. what is this thickness of new factory brake shoe linings .. to me .063 doesn't seem to be very much.. what would be the expected life of these brakes (.063) at feeway speeds daily?
3. How much does it matter if there is play in 1 ball joint?

if you are honest, you would disclose all of these problems to a potential buyer.
I sold my 1994 accordl lx with 153 K for #2K and I told the buyer
1. rebuilt fron salvage at 60K
2. needs brake work
3. Axles have some play in them since they are original but they are not broken nor do the boots have any cracks in them.
I showed him the maint records but did not allow him to keep them since they have my personal information on them.
Told him and had him sign a paper written in 12point font that listed all of the known issues with car and that it was sold as is for $2K. I paid $5 for it in 2002 drove it for 57K miles change the oil every 3-5K, made repairs as needed, and finally got a newer accord.

Safe for resale? Because of the Ball Joint; No, but everything else is ok to go.
Most States and municipalities only require the vehicle pass inspection at the time of 1st registration. Most states require Used car dealers insure the vehicle has to be able to pass a state safety inspection, as part of States Business Regulations. This doesn't apply to private sales person/person.
States handle this by insisting the car pass a state Inspection Proceedure within 7 Business days of the sale; and it's the responcibility of the BUYER.
You can handle this two ways.
Invest additional moneys and make the car 100% (for your own conscience). Make sure your NEW PRICE reflects the addition costs you incured)
or
As YeuEmMaiMai mentioned, write up a sellers agreement listing known problems and stipulate the sale is "AS IS". Make it plain that your selling price reflects "adjustments" because of the known 'defects'
