brake switch clack
whats up people?!
ok... just today i notice that each time i press the brake pedal while the car is in park and the ignition on, there is a loud click ... or a clack persay coming from the around or under the gear shifter every time i press the brake..
It doesnt make a sound when I shift out of park and press the brake or when i turn off the ignition and press the brake.
anyone know what this may be before i take the center console apart?
any help would be GOLD... thanx .

ya ok... but why all of a sudden is it extremely audible... never was before.
i messed up console tabs prying them apart ... ****.
I think it is actually the switch itself not the relay... is there supposed to be some kind of rubber or something to keep it from clacking like that?
thanx again

Take off the trim ring around the shift lever, like you're gonna use a key to unlock the lever manually.
Now use the brake & listen. Look down in there. Maybe that solenoid is beginning to come loose? Maybe there's some loose broken plastic tabs from taking apart the console? On my '98 there isn't really much soundproofing around it, but it just isn't noisy.

What you're hearing is the Shift Interlock Solenoid; who's sole purpose is to lock the selector in Park until the Brake lamp switch signals it the drivers' got their foot on the brake. It's mounted on the side of the shift control assembly
