Rubber in upper fender riped out by tire!!! WTF!!!!!!
Okay, I am amazed; let me set it up for you; driving on highway doing 70, all of a sudden I hear/feel a huge thunk thunk, I look back see a black thing behind me. Immeadiately I realize it's the upper rubber above the tire in the wheel well (I thought this because I remember someone on this board having the same thing happen).
Here ar ehte pics of the damage; it is pretty bad:
No idea why this happened. I have the same fender repaired when my roommate had backed in to my car back in December, but never noticed it comming off or hanging. On the phone the phoen the dealer thinks I hit something, but no way. I know it wasn't loose because I looked in that area two days ago and noticed nothing unusual and I definately didn't hit anything cause I would have felt that.
So what should I do? I am going to the body shop thta did the original work on Monday so they can take a look at it and hopefully they will pay to fix it. Then, I am also going to the dealer on Tuesday; so maybe they will warrenty it? The car only has 13K miles on it. A Comptech icebox was installed, but never had to touch that area to do the isntall.
Any suggestion/ideas? Will the dealer warrenty this? I am so pissed off / frustrated.

Yes, that's deffinately covered under warranty. But I'm sure you'll catch a little hell for the modified intake if they think you messed around near the resonator, I know my boss would try that to get out of a warranty job.
this happend to the ITR of the guy I had lunch w/ today. He just left the fender liner off and pushed out the fender himself. I couldn't even tell the fender was 'sucked' in before.
y
shi - who feels bad that this happened and will check his liner tonite!

Damn Chris! That freaking sucks!! Man, I can't believe this **** is happening after that thing with your roommate! Hope you get that fixed without shelling out too much from your own pocket!
My buddy (who drove my R at the track on the Feb 9th track event) did the exact thing last week in his car but there wasn't any fender body damage. Sorry dude! I feel for ya!

i remember what the cause for this was.
when the intake/whatever was installed, the screw that holds in that liner had to be removed. when it was replaced, it was not replaced properly. after driving and stuff it probably fell out. without it there to hold the liner the linder drops down a bit when u'r driving. u were probably going at a half decent speed, enough to push the liner down far enough to for the tire to catch it. the tire was turning and ripped it right out.
that sucks dude... hope it works out..... blame everyone!

Yeah, that one. VERY tricky and hard to get through the metal clip.
Damn dude, that totally sucks. I am totally going to go and check that out on my R tonight before I do anything. Can't really afford to have my fender ripped apart like that. Sorry dude...hope that it all works out for the best.
The same thing happened to RealTypeR (Marc in Orlando). We think the front came loose and road under the tire. Same exact fender damnage. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=109596
We just bent the fender back 2 weekends ago. We got it looking pretty good. He ended up getting a new fender liner, and about 5 of thouse clips. He could also use another fender support, but we managed with out it.

That happened to mine also the front came loose and went under the tire but luckily I was only going about 5 mph so it didn't damage the fender.
if that is on the passsanger side, it is pretty hard to get the ice box inside the fender without takign out the liner. i guess you could but it would be a pretty big pf a hassel, so i think ou just prob forgot to put back some of those plastic screw clips in, but still that part is held by metal screws on the bottom of the lip. that is the only explanantion i can come up with.. good luck.
I guess you could argue that the fender liner was re-attched properly BUT....
The car had been in the body shop after the install of the Icebox and the had to replace that same fender meaning they had to work with the fender liner; thus they would have made sure it was screwed in properly.
I am assuming if you replace the fender, you are going to have to remove the fender liner; is this correct? Or could the body shop have replaced the entire fender without touching the fender liner?

Man, if I wanted a car to fall apart on me I'd go buy a Mustang.
If the body shop wn't pay for the damages I am seriously selling the car. **** this ****.

Man the same thing happened to me....It was dragging the nite before but it was Sat, I THOUGHT I fixed it all of a sudden I hear this loud dragging.....my tire caught it and next thing you know Im picking it up from off the road, to make matters worse it was the side were my AEM cai was showing and on top of that. I couldnt drive the whole weekend because it RAINED. but acura charges about $70 to replace it. My fender was the same way...It bent in! Acura did thier best to straighten it, they said because my car is lowered and thats what caused it. But its no big deal.
Here is how I think it happened:
I believe the air traveling underneath the car was great enough to tear away the wheel liner away from the bumper area, where the resonator is / was... Enough so it got caught under the wheel thus resulting in the liner tearing out as the tire drove over it. In addition, the force of it tearing out managed to warp your fender as seen in the picture.

That happened to me at an autocross school. Strange this is...it was the driver's side fender, so that whole intake thing goes out the window. As far as I know, the driver's fender liner had never been removed in the past. Tore that fugger right out with the tire. Fortunately, there was no real fender damage like you have. I guess I got lucky.
