Default '90 CRX?

My friend is selling a 1990 CRX for only $300. He's bringing pics tomorrow at school for me to see. I'm not sure what model it is but its auto. I'm a domestic guy(have a '85 and '02 Trans Ams) but I like these CRXs. I have an import fan friend who says the 5spd swao wouldn't be too hard - he's dome one in his old civic. My friend said the car runs good and the body is good but the radiator has a crack though it doesn't leak. I'm serously thinking about buying this car. Also I got an online insurance quote from Progessive and they want about $300 a month! I'm 18 and haven't had any wrecks so whys the insurance so high? I thought insurance on these little 4 bangers were supposed to be cheap.

WRONG!!!!! I am almost 28 and still pay more for my REX than I did on my GS-R?? Your ins. can expalin how the point system works that they base their rates on.
And oh yeah....YOUR 18 and you will have to suck it up for a few years like the rest of us. My first car was an 88 CRX Si and I had to pay alot then too, that was back in '96 though and I still did not pay as much as $300.00 per month (though I think it was about $262.00). Just call around until you get the lowest rate, Nationwide provided me w/ the lowest rate but it differs state to state.

since it's an auto, it has to be a dx. and, i know what you mean about insurance. but i didn't pay any more for my crx than i did for my oldsmobile or my hatch. when 18 it was like 90 bucks a month. make sure you call around.

i'd suggest both a 5 speed swap and a mpfi swap.

the crx dx has dpfi (which is just throttle body injection with two injectors) and whatever you do for performance you'll want an actual fuel injection system.

the auto to manual is straight forward, change the tranny, change the pedal cluster, and drill a couple holes to mount the shift linkage.

It's a DX model. It has a dual point fuel injection system (TBI), and makes about 90 HP. If the body is straight, get that ****! $300 is a steal. Swap in a b-series motor and convert to 5-speed, and you'll never go back to muscle cars. I owned 3 T/As before my first CRX (a '79, an '81 Turbo, and an '83) The CRX is much more fun to drive, just as easy, if not easier, to work on, and much more practical as an everyday car due to the great gas mileage and reliability.

My B16 powered CRX gets about 32-35 mpg in the city with a rusted stock exhaust, my new exhuast will be here this week and my MPG will be even better then! Not to mention the car runs almost 13s in the 1/4 and can handle it's share of V8s!

You are getting raped on insurance. Have a few tickets do we? I pay about $80 right now for full coverage (89 HF) with $100 deductibles on Comprehensive and Collision and I am also 28.

****** that thing up. If I had $300 to blow on a CRX with no motor, seats or interior I would do it. This is even better.

Tell me something I don't know! I have some secret code on my name that tells ALL ins. to just rape me! I have no tickets or points and pay about $41.00 per month for liability only, I think full coverage will be around $100.00 or so but I do have an Si and it really is more expensive than a '92 GSR and def more than an HF, believe it or not Gieco gave me a quote for $300.00 more every 6 months than any other ins. I qouted also. I asked them about there stupid "15 mins could save you 15%" and they always get defensive with me.......F__K insurance, it's legal ROBBERY but we have no choice I am about to start looking around for new Ins. again but really all you have to decide is who you want to be raped by, not who will take care of you. This world is just way too corrupt!!!

Good luck on not getting RAPED! I've just accepted my fate

As far as the insurance part goes. I am an agent and the best way to not take it in the *** with your insurance premiums is to have good credit. Bad credit will cost you 3 times as much as accidents and tickets.

Geico and Safe Auto are never good deals. Progressive online sometimes. Your best bet is to find a local agent and ask him who is the best around there. Here the cheapest company around is Travelers.

$300 for the CRX ......... Grab that baby

DAMN, I can't beleive I have never heard that before but for the first time ever I realize why my Ins. sucks (cause my credit is F&*Ked) That makes me livid that credit matters on your ins. considering you HAVE to have insurance legally I can't beleive this is allowed!!!!!!! just more proof of how F*&Ked up this country really is!!!!! The rich get richer and the poor take it up the ***!!
