1988 honda prelude, wont start
help!!!!!
car was running fine now it will not start. plugs look good, plug wires check good, thought it might be the coil so replaced it and still no go. Im getting fuel but the spark looks weak. sometimes tries to start but spits and chugs back thru carb. any ideas.

could be the starter eh? even though it is cranking just fine...hmm... please dont post any more comments. "spits and chugs back thru the carb" does that mean it backfires through the carb. if so its gotta be like a timing problem. i'm not really sure how the ignition is set up on your engine but in the distributor there usually is a magnetic pickup that runs off of a trigger wheel. something could be messed up with that. actually that would make the spark weak also. like in the distributor if the magnetic pickkup was telling it to spark at the wrong time there would be a larger gap between the cap and the rotor. if the gap was large enough the spark could even jump to the wrong cylinder and cause the backfiring you described. so that would be my most educated guess. it pretty much has to be a problem inside the distributor. so take the cap off and check it out.
