87 2.0 rebulid
i have an 87 with the 2.0 and its leaking oil from the front and rear mains. so i'm going to rebuilt the entire engine. at first i wanted to install a turbo on it and i might still but i'm leaning more toward just doing other engine work to make it have more power. i was just wondering what you think i should do to modify it. i was thinking lightweight parts such as pistons and rods. maybe a new cam and port the head. i'd like it to have at least 150 hp when i'm done. or do you think i should just try and turbocharge it. and if so what do i have to do to make the engine capable of handling a turbo? thanx
Have you thought about a swap? How long do you plan to keep your car. It is a 87. Any issues with rust? Is this your daily driver? With the engine being an 87, Im guessing you have to rebuild everything internally for a turbo set-up.
i live in michigan so i dont drive it in the winter. it has slight surface rust but i am purchasing new body panels from japan and repainting it. i plan on keeping it for 15-20 more years, driving only in the summer. the engine has 300k on it and i am going to blueprint it and rebuild the entire thing. i was just wondering what kind of internal modifications people would suggest to increase horsepower, and also, what internal changes must be made if i decide to turbocharge it.
Since you want to keep the car for a long period of time, sleeve the block. Get strong rods & pistons. Maybe coat the pistons. I personally would get cams that are geared towards a turbo setup. I don't know who makes cams for your engine.
