Ex ITR Owners
To all who sold, crashed or lost their ITRs; I have a question for you:
You have moved on from all the excitement, fear of theft and vandalism, crowds and other things. You may now drive an SUV, a step up (no lames please), like M3 or S2k, or your old beater. You don't have no ITR nomo.
The RSX type R arrives in 2004. It is not as pure as the current ITR in that the engiene is not hand built, the limited production is not "so" limited, and there is some sound insulation, etc. It does not quite deserve its "Type R" badge. However, because of improvement in technology, e.g. i VTEC, it out performs ITR in every way. Not by much, but it does.
Would you break down and get one? You will go back to all the good things and bad things about owning such a car. You are older. You told yourself long ago that you would move on and wouldn't look back. So...

Unless I have missed something, there is NO official word on whether there will be an RSX-R at all.
The engines in the Integra Type R (USDM) were not hand built except for 97. Machines did the porting and polishing for all other years, supposidly, better than any human could do.
Would I get one? YES, if it ever came here and only if it closely resembled the JDM version.
I beleive it will be here. And the way things are going with Mitsubishi and Subaru that thing better be packed full of JDM goodness if Honda of America knows whats good for them. Just my 2 cents.

For whatever it's worth, MotorTrend said both the Civic and RSX Type Rs will be coming over at about the same time at the end of the year or beginning of next year. I'll believe it when I see it .. I can see them bringing the CTR though. That's probably why they made the Si so **** poor ugly
The only thing I'd sell the S2000 for is an RSX-R. However, I fear that might put me back in the sights and insurance bracket of the knuckleheads who I left behind when I sold the ITR.
My only concern with the RSX-R (besides the question on whether or not it actually shows up here in the US) is whether it will have the same "no compromises" package. I don't want leather or sunroof or sound insulation. I want reasonable power and top-class brakes and suspension.

my goal has always been and will most likely be, to own a 98 CW ITR again someday. I cant say when that day will be but eventually down the road i want one of those parked in my driveway again

why would you want to buy the new R if it comes here.
It will probally not come with the brakes
It will probally not come with the seats
It will probally not come with the same type of engine
It it will probally not come with a few of the little items it has, etc...
Why?
They have no reason to keep the brakes on. Why? People will of course buy the car without them on it, so why spend the money and put them on. In Japan people demend those brakes because the car market is so aftermarket influenced.
Also the seats will probally not meet the US saftey regulations. They will probally make a seat cover off the RSX seats.
Also we will not get that exact engine. With the current smog regulations and the stiffer ones which are coming on newer cars, that engine will not meet them. Also the exhaust system and probally the ECU and some other stuff will be swaped to a crappy US spec. Next in CA we only run 91 octaine now. With that compression and setup I'm not sure if it will run correctly. So the engine will have to be adjusted for that.
Also all the little items might be swapped around due to US regulations. Also the name RSX-R sounds kinda bad. Oh yeah they also have to keep the power down because they can't have a RSX that has more power then their other car lines. They have to keep it in succesion to price and sales.
The JDM type R will get raped when it comes here as with how our type R's were.
The main difference was that even with the rape of a lifetime the current US type R got, it still remained an amazing car with its pure race style setup. The integra was a killer platform to make a race car with as with the Bseries engine was so adaptable to adjustments in power. However with the new R I don't think it will beable to take that rape. It will have sound deadning in the car, tons of weight, an engine that might not be so forgiving in adjustments to meet regulations, etc... Also the mags will probally rip apart the new R when it comes here because the current R was so admired. Kinda like how the new M3 was ripped on when they compaired it to the E36 or E30 M3. Yeah they said it handled good, however they also said the race feel was killed and the car felt kinda messed up.
However this is all just a quick thought into this. I would have to drive the new US R to see for myself, however I just don't think it will be able to make me want one.

after reading https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=150092 and then seeing the title of this thread, I thought someone was forming a support group for ex-ITR owners.
Jim: Hi, I'm Jim. I used to own a 97 Integra Type R
All: Hi Jim.
Tom: Hi, I'm Tom. I miss VTEC.
All:Hi Tom
At this point the group coordinator will play an audio recording of an AEM-equipped Type R being driven from 0-120MPH. so the participants can mentally relive the good old days!

I will definately test drive an RSX-R and Hell, if it excites me I may get one.
As my SIG states, I lost one R and just went out and got Another!
It is a pure purpose built car that is truely Not for everyone. But, for those who do appreciate it, It is a masterpiece of engineering that begs us to really use it to it's limits.
Dare I say that the ITR has a Very strong cult following?
