Default 04 civic si revving problems

Hey all. Last night on the way home from the club i was having a little fun with the car. Chirping gears and what not. When i went to redline it in first it acted like the rev limiter somehow moved to 5k rpms. Now it will rev the exact same at 5k rpms as it used to at the redline. Up to 5k, and down to 4900k fast. The car is under warrenty, but its got me a little worried. Anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance.

Also, a little off subject, but can an rsx 6 speed tranny be dropped in the ep3 civic si with the k20a?

It's normal. If you are at a standstill, the ecu limits revs to 5500. I mean, you dont really need more than that from a stop. If you are rolling, you can get to the real readline no problem.

Yes, the RSX tranny can be put on the K20A.

Now... you're saying that it won't rev any higher than about 5K? Even on the move?

I would guess that it's in limp mode for whatever reason.

Could be oil level is low. Was the car properly warmed up?

if you are rolling and you cant get to redline, there is a problem, but at a standstill the fuel cutoff is 5500rpm.

Im not speculating damnit, my car does the same thing. If you arent moving you cant rev to redline. There are other threads about this topic.

In case anyone didn't read his post...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 98slowvicEX &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> When i went to redline it in first it acted like the rev limiter somehow moved to 5k rpms.</TD></TR></TABLE>

This says to me that he tried to redline it while in gear. You can't be in gear and remain standing still. Now...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 98slowvicEX &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Now it will rev the exact same at 5k rpms as it used to at the redline. Up to 5k, and down to 4900k fast.</TD></TR></TABLE>

This sounds like he's bouncing off the rev limiter, except that instead of redline, it's now at 5K rpm.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">The car is under warrenty, but its got me a little worried. Anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Have you taken it in yet?

Don't be surprised if they read the stored data on the ECU and discover that you've been beating the **** out of your engine. If they DON'T figure this out, and they don't accuse you of racing, then quietly accept whatever warranty work they'll give to your car.

Then, after it gets fixed, don't beat the living expletive out of your engine all the time. Yeah, Honda motors are rev-happy, but they still have their limits, and bouncing off the rev limiter isn't good for ANY engine.

Never mind that chirping the tires beats up your clutch & tranny...

[/scolding rant]

If the car is not warmed up the ecu will not allow it to enter v-tec.
