Just read this on another website and it is definite Carlson is definitly driving one of SCHUMACHERS PRO STOCKERS while in the process pissing off BOB GLIDDEN.

Schumacher confirms Glidden departure
(1-22-2006) - Team owner Don Schumacher confirmed a rumor that crewchief Bob Glidden has left the Mopar Pro Stock team. Reportedly the "deal breaker" was the forthcoming hiring of Sean Carlson to drive the second Mopar-sponsored team. The announcement of Carlson to the driving job is imminent.

Sources indicate that Glidden had lobbied hard for one of his son's to drive the car and when Carlson, a sport compact driver, was promoted to the position it was more than the multi-time champion could stomach.

The incident transpired on Thursday and an official announcement has yet to be made.

I hope this is true! Pro Stock is my favorite class period, and to have a sport compact driver in it is awsome, and who better

 

Good for him.. But you gotta wonder how it makes him feel, to know that Bob Glidden would rather quit than tune his car. I wonder where Glidden is going to end up. Whoever gets him, is instantly going to be a contender, if they weren't already. And I wonder who they are going to get to tune those cars now. Maybe Sully will make a return. He has experience working with Shaun. Let's see how this pans out. Personally, I think he will do fine. He held his own when he helped out the Johnsons two years ago.

good luck and congrats to shaun. sucks to see good talent leave the sport compact ranks but id burn down my moms house to drive a pro stock car. looking forward to see him put it down.

My initial opinion is that this decision mainly came from Mopar in effort to attract the "younger" generation...this is right up there with putting Erica Enders behind the wheel of a Pro Stock car...Shaun will be a great asset to the class and will most likely put up some double zero r/t's this year

His respect level in the business just went down the toilet a lot more than it already has. His quitting and walking out on commitments is now pretty legendary. Just ask Larry Morgan, Steve Schmidt, and Jeg Coughlin, Sr. It looks to me like he would rather be unemployed than turn wrenches for a former Sport Compact driver. Here it is, 2006 and Sport Compact drivers still don't receive any respect for being DRAG RACERS.

 

I like alot of what I here on this and some not.

1. Gillden rocks ***, he's a good tuner!
2. Being someones dad doesn't mean they deserve a ride! Big up to Don for being a man on the issue
3. Shaun can drive that car for sure
4. Mopar did yank all it's sport compact backing for 2006
5. Shaun is a good racecar driver, smart guy to! but how many events did he go to since he got mopar backing? It's not as many as some of us guys who do it on our own dime
6. Shaun loves drag racing and has been FWD for a long time but has done it with a mopar, ford and hondas So for him it's about who will pay the bills not the product which is understandable, but my heart bleeds blue I would hope the mopar pro stockers would to
7. Don's shop is in Indy so I guess we'll be seeing more of shaun
8. Oh If Don's looking for more sport compact guys to drive his rides and take the NHRA to the "new school" there are 3 in INDY right now One of whoms heart bleeds blue
9. Hope that this whole deal will give credit to the sport compact scene, and not be a marker for big sponsors (Mopar) giving up on US!

 

Which champsionship did Gliden win last year ? What major sponsor quit the team after not being able to win until the end of the year ? It's probably better that he did step out.

Big props to Shawn, this may be more of a common thing in the future and it will definately help bring some new sponsors and a new look to Pro Stock. I'm sure Don will get a great crew chief to run the cars, lord knows he has the checkbook to get what he wants.

I wonder which of his son's were campaigning the ride? I thought Billy Glidden ran the NMRA circuit in a 10.5 tire class?

 

An 18 year old girl would of been a better choice.

Bob Glidden won an unprecedented 10 Winston championships in 16 years, including five consecutive titles from 1985 to 1989, and amassed 85 national event victories before retiring at the end of the 1997 season. In the summer of 1978, he embarked on one of the sport's legendary winning streaks that included nine straight national event victories. He also qualified No. 1 at a record 23 consecutive races, including all 14 events in 1987.

Okay, we all know Bob Glidden's pedigree, Earl. Here's the problem: no matter what your pedigree, your history, your records, I'm really not sure that the guy with the pen in his hand to sign paychecks is all that impressed with all that. At the end of the day, no matter what you did all those years ago, drag racing is a "what have you done for me LATELY" organization. And LATELY, all Bob Glidden has done is walk out if he doesn't get his way. If he wants to call the shots, let him put his own deal together and put one of his sons behind the wheel. Until then, while he's working for Schumacher or anyone else, he doesn't have that privilege. That's all I'm trying to say. Of course, Earl, there's always more to the story that we don't know or see.

Hey John, thanks for always sticking up for me! I know stuff has gone-down lately but thanks again. As for Scott M, what did you mean with your post????? 18 year old girl???? Was that directed towards me???? As for the Schumacher deal, nothing is set in stone.This is a big step and I want it to be the right decision for both the whole sport compact industry and myself! The majority of the NHRA idustry does not have much respect for us. I want to make sure the decisions I make and the outcome is in ALL of our best interest! My heart has been in the SC industry for quite some time and hopefully everyone knows that. If the change has to be made, I want the decision to benefit us ALL. Not just my check-book! Shoe and I have been talking for quite some time however I HAVE NOT SIGHED ANYTHING! As far as Glidden goes, he must have something against me for some strange unknown reason. I have had the highest respect for him since I followed him back in the days of Ford. I use to go to Pomona just to see him in the pits. I have done nothing but be the nicest person I could be to him! I guess you cant please EVERYONE! I will try my best at everything I do! Thank all of you for always being there for me! Shaun.

No offense to you Shaun. Congrats. It was a joke hence the Settle down there bucko. You have support from us over here, now the people on nitromater are a different breed .... but like you said you can't please everyone.

But from a marketing standpoint and 18 year old girl would of been a better choice. Why? Sex sells ... bottom line. At least that seems to be the trend in all of motorsports these days.
