Default changing vtec point of engagement?

I'm looking at the VAFC for my turbo setup, and It says it can change the engage RPM of the VTEC anywhere from 3000~7000. I was wondering if anyone knew what down sides there were to changing the point of engagement to something as low as 3000 (other than possibly reduced gas mileage when being driven in a semi-normal fashion)
thanks guys

gotcha, I'll probably just go with the SAFC instead anyways

SAFC and turbo? Have you considered a real fuel system?

Vafc is like 300-350 and hondata is 450-500, hondata will really be worth a little more money

vtec work off of oil pressure if you change it to 3000 rpm there not enough pressue yet to really make it worth it.plus you should really get hondata and tune it on a dyno to exactly find where vtec works best.

Hondata s200 + tuning is worth the money.... it will be faster, more reliable, and i would venture to say last longer.

The oe vtec engagement point is set there for a reason. Each cam lobe has its own power band. If you engage vtec too soon you will lose power, ,sometimes massive power because the vtec lobe is not designed to work at 3k or 4k for that matter.

yes I have considered a "real fuel system" but for those of us in NY with OBDII it's about the best option without converting to OBDI, which would make it impossible to get my car inspected every year unless I called in a favor every single year with my mechanic. not to mention in a few years, if I decide to get rid of my car, it's gonna be kinda tough to sell a car that cant be inspected. this isnt gonna be a 20 psi race monster, it's gonna be an 8-10 psi daily driven car... if it's done right I'm sure an SAFC and retarding the dist. a bit will be alright. Not to mention, there isnt a dyno place around for atleast 3 hours, the closest one is in another country lol(I live about 40 miles from the canadian border)

and I figured there was a bad side to changing the engagement point of the vtec otherwise everyone and their brother would be doing it, but as long as I was considering a VAFC I thought I might as well ask.

thanks everyone for the helpful info
