Default transmission fluid

when would i know to change transmisson fluid on a manual 97 gsr

You should change it every 30,000 miles. Don't wait for grinding or stiff shifting.

Will changing it get rid of stiff shifting??

It can help. It is not expensive to try. Use a manual transmission fluid, not motor oil.

could low tranny oil mean stiff shifting? I just changed it about 3k ago, and its really stiff shifting when its cold, like i cant get it in first unless im completely stopped, forcing me to start in second and slip the clutch.

use Pennzoil synchromesh, or gm synchromesh, its says its for gm vehicles but its works really good and reduses grinding or stiff shifting alot. I used it and it is so much smother.

sounds like your tranny is going or clutch is
