arrgh - transmission/shifter rattle
I'm getting this rattling sound from the base of the shifter. I took all of the console and rubber surrounds off so I can see more closely what is going on. When I get to about 3k-3.5k rpms the base of the shifter starts to rattle, but when I put my hand on the shifter it stops. I can't see anything wrong - it seems like it's underneath the ball at the bottom of the shifter. Any ideas??? Thx
PS. Also, how do you take the shifter out? Does it just pry off?

yeah, I've got the same problem. I have a neuspeed shifter which I swear was not designed for a crx. There is like 2mm of play in the bottom bolt area of the shifter.
I would recomend going under your car and shaking stuff. you'll soon see where the play is then you can put extra washers or bearings in.

Well if there is polly shifter bushings or any after amrket non rubber bushings in your shifter linkage It will buzz a bit but you get smoother shifts etc.
Thanks for the responses guys. I'll have a look under the car. Does anyone have a schematic of the transmission/shift linkage by any chance???
if the shifter is rattling, the shift lever under the car is probably touching your exhaust or an exhaust heat shield. short shifters have that problem alot.
you can loosen the bolt that holds the lever to the shift linkage to add a little more play to the shifter or you can try to move the exhaust out of the way...
if you need some help with this, let me know.

i had the same problem when i put a short shifter in my crx. put as many washers in as you can cram and make sure your bolts are tight. mine rattled for about 2 weeks and then the bolt came half way out on my way home from work and it almost left me stranded. double check the tighteness of the bolt. that is usually the noise.
