Default First gen acting strange!

hey my first gen si crx is acting wierd. it started about three days ago. i was leaving a light, and once i shifted into third my car started to cut out, but if i rev it up and then shift, it stops cutting out. last night i checked my oil when i got home and noticed that my header was glowing red! i think it my fuel pump going out or my fuel filter going out. tell me what u think any help will be greatly appriacted. thanks in advance

not sure how you tied those 2 things together but why not replace the fuel filter so you can deffinitely rule that out at least

Wow, super hot EGT's. Does sound like a lack of fuel, I'd change the filter anyway if you havent done so in a while but usually a clogged filter = sputtering in higher rpms. Also check your coolant and spark plugs. Maybe run a 1 step colder plug to help until you can figure out the cause.

Actually check your plugs first. If they seem fine then unbolt your cat, a clogged cat can cause the header to glow. It may be loud as hell but drive it until your header would normally start glowing and check. Also when you unbolt the cat notice if the performance gets better. What kind of gas mileage have you been getting?

the cat on those engines is right up top just barely after the header runners. it is common for the cat to get plugged from oil and unburnt fuel. my 84 did the same stuff...

glowing red could also be a sign of too rich. check fuel pressure.
