Honda S2000 as Automatic?
Hey All,
I'm curious if there would there be any way to aquire one of these cars in Automatic transmission? I enjoy these cars very much but being a fairly new driver (coming from an automatic) there is absolutely no way that I would be able to focus on driving and learning to use a stick shift --esspecially in traffic in Los Angeles. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Graham

Hello Jon,
Thank you for the quick response!
This may sound like a very stupid question, but is it possible to have the manual transmission changed to being an automatic and how much would a process like this cost?
Thank you,
Graham

hey...the s2k is meant to be stick driven. an automatic is the most idiotic thing ever. if u really want the s2k, get it and then learn how to drive it like i did. a week in a parking lot is all it takes.
i live in LA too and traffic is a bitch, but i put up with it.

That's the wrong way to answer a question noob, no matter how ignorant it is. I can't stand loud mouth know it alls that call people things like "idiotic" and "retarded". Go make up another story about you getting jumped.
To the original poster: Honda does not make an automatic transmission to fit a longitudinal engine layout, therefore it is not possible. Learn to drive a stick, it becomes second nature. It also lets you fully enjoy this car's capabilities.

oh man i never said that HE was an idiot, nor was the word retarded mentioned once. i was saying an automatic for the car was idiotic. and im not a loud mouth know it all.....im a nub and i know nothing. i never claimed i was one. relax dude u make it sound like i was flaming his post which i wasnt....

c'mon man, give him a break. its wasn't that bad of a question. it was either a quick yes or no. Juss because u can learn it sooo fast and soooo easy, doesn't mean someone else can. Juss calm down man. ****.

Yeah I'd say if you really want it learn to drive a stick. When I first started driving, my dad made me learn on a stick. The very first time we went out was on a stick and I was all worried like you said, about paying attention to both the driving and the shifting. But you'll be ok. you might have the occasional stall at stop sign or somethin, but it happens. Before you know it, you'll be takin' the long way home just so you can hit those winding roads, heel toeing at every turn. My only question is though, is the s2000 the best car to be starting out on? whether you can drive a stick or not?
good luck
good luck
WOWOW sorry everybody i really didn't mean it to come off that way at all. i was just trying to say it wouldn't really be an s2k if was automatic. sorry i had no intention of being a jerk at all.
and btw, i was driving 4 hours at a time learning stick for a week straight....thats slow compared to others. and i wasn't bragging at all i was merely letting him know how easy it could be to learn to drive so maybe he would get an s2k.

haha, its aight dude, no stresssin' mang. i was juss saying that i took it in the wrong perspective too, but i know you mean nothing from it. and i totally agree with you, an s2k wouldn't be an s2k if it wasn't a stick. no worries fella

Slideways2000,
Thanks, that was the exact response I was looking for.
LAS2K,
Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion
It's fine, no worries here. A good friend of mine drives a stick and watching him go up a hill and stop (such as getting out of a parking lot) seems like watching brain surgery take place. I do really like the S2K (It was either that or my second choice which is a Convt. Mustang) but, like I said, my only drawback was it being manual. I like the car enough however to try and learn a stick if its my only option of driving one.
Take Care,
Graham

learn to drive a stick
,.........maybe then you'll understand why it is offered only in stick.(i.e. GsR, Si, Integra Type-R...)
But if you insist on an auto, look into a Z4 or Boxster.
obvisously, you've only been in the passenger side of an s2k and you love it, just wait 'til you are be hide the wheel and STICK.

I think it should be required that people know how to drive a stick when they get their license...truely, an automatic S2000 would be like a stripper with no breast.

I have seen two S2000's in person that have had automatic transmission customfitted into them, with a sport shift. Yes, that's right. 2. Neither are very close friends, but needless to say, it can be done. Just how much money are you willing to spend to be a little lazy is the question.
First, you'd have to find either an auto. clutch that would fit into the orignal bell housing and a trans. that would fit power and that auto trans. to this engine. Or a bell housing from a auto clutch and trans. that would work. Then the shifter would have to be adapted to this car. Also you'd have to consider the length of the drive shaft, etc., etc. This to me spells "VERY EXPENSIVE", especially if any of the parts have to be specially made for the S2000.
But, I taught my nephew to drive on mine, and though he didn't catch on quickly (probably shortened the life of the clutch by a few years) the car is fine. Think of it this way, "if you learn on a manual transmission, you'll be able to drive any car in the future". But I would suggest learning on some other manual trans. and then buy a S2k.

kind of random, but my Dad gave me some great advice when I was 15 years old and started looking for my 1st car..."Buy a stick, that way you'll know how to drive EVERY car in any situation." For example, what if you were camping with a buddy that drives a stick(and he drove), and he became ill or injured and you had to drive down a mountain or something? Would you just instead stay there and die because you can't drive stick? My Dad also MADE me learn how to drive on stick, and it was an old POS Blazer that made learning even more difficult. Within 10-15 minutes on my 1st drive EVER, he made me face a fear I had of driving on the Interstate. I thank him to this day for that.
Just my take on learning stick.

My buddy and I made it a point when we got our license to learn to drive manual, but there was no car to practice on except his dad's '82 Toyota pickup. Pick up trucks are pretty forgiving when you're learning.
