Default Should I really be feeling vtec this much?

Ive noticed lately with my new used engine that between 2500-3000rpms the vtec kicks in. I know this is somewhat normal but it feels like I have a turbo on my car with lots of turbo lag. Anything below 2500rpm my car has little power and then once i hit 2500+ bam you feel this sudden urge of power. I never felt that on my old engine. Im asking this because I remember reading somewhere on here awhile ago that if you can feel and hear vtec your gas mileage may not be at its optimum level. Can someone fill me in here? Thanks.

V-tec engagement is 4500 RPM on these cars i believe. On the 6the gen accord V6 you know when it opens because at 4K you suddenly get a lot more torque.

V-tec does not rely on RPM alone

The engine swap was what?

on f22/ f23 sohc vtec's.

you really wont feel vtec on a stock engine... but it becomes more noticeable with modifications (esp. turbocharged).

I had my vtec engagement set too high by a local tuner (cause he did not know much about sohc vtec tuning) and till it got to that rpm it was a dog. Dave at the whip factory hooked me up with a real tune (since he knows his ****)... and now it runs strong like it should (turbo spools and away we go).

Actually, the VTEC engagement on these engines is actually "variable" depends on the load, and other factors. or i could be wrong.

Check your ignition timing.
