I've seen some people selling them actually. not from a VW though, but an actual honda key.

I think you can buy them from your local honda dealership.

the chip would have to be remanufactured. you can't just cut the key and make it flip since it has a computer chip in every key. i'm not sure about the 1996 model, but they have them for 1998+.

I saw someone selling them here on H-T before, or maybe it was another web forum. They only had them in regular keys, not the ones with chips. So you can get them, just have to find them.

I don't believe the 96 models have the chip. If your current key doesn't have a chip, then your car doesn't require it. Just look at you key.

good question. i've done what you have posted. i've had a spare fob from an Audi. i've searched and found a spare of my honda keys. it's pretty tough to put tha accord key to get it fit. with some welding and shaving off of soem pieces from tha fob, i got it to fit and works fine. i've also tried to get to fit my alarm into that thingie ..but it's too big for tha fob. but i had success replacing my keys into tha spare audi fob i had.

ACTUALLY the chip would be inside of the key not visible like older GM models. Sorry to burst your bubble.
No once and for all this 96 does not have an immobilizer system so no chip in the key
(easy way to tell if it has an immobilizer system is to look for a picture of a green key in the gauge cluster when putting the key in the ignition or while starting it, if the light is flashing that means the key is not programmed.)

One thing you could probably do is to modify your key and keyfob into one unit. The new Accords have the transmitter built right into the key which is kinda cool. For some reason the new Accords have this, but the Acura TSX (euro Accord) does not, so some TSX owners are converting there keys. If you are interested I'll see if I can find the online DIY for this.
