I am trying to diagnose the rattling noises in my 5 speed transaxle.
I already removed all the 12mm hex bolts around the bellhousing to tranny parting line.
But I cannot separate the bellhousing from the tranny. I already have a 3/8" gap but still won't separate. In the bottom parting line, there is a magnet and I found a fragment of a ball bearing cage. I know that there must be a broken ball bearing that needs to be replaced.
What else am i missing to get this tranny separated from the bellhousing. Where can I get a diagram showing at least the tranny internal parts. There is no diagram in the Haynes manual.

The Best place you could go is a Helms manual, Ebay usually has some for sale; the internal break down is critical to have if you want to rebuild your trans.
But you will probably be able to find a salvage yard unit as cheap as the cost of Parts and labor rebuilding your trans....$70 per bearing adds up quick.

 

use an engine brace to support engine
remove drive shafts
place jack upder trans for support
unbolt trans
remove trans

 

I got the transaxle split into half already.
The main shaft front ball bearing is shot.
The counter shaft front roller bearing is also shot.

Does anybody have a part number for these bearings?

Bearing is $27.38
Oil seal is $5.55

Still better than getting a used one for $300.
