Whats the advantage with 4 disc breaks instead of 2 disc in front and 2 drums in the back?
The title states what im asking. I have an eg6 and the front breaks are both rotors and the backs are drums. I believe the eg6 si has all 4 rotors. So i was just wondering whats the advantage of having 4 disc breaks? Any info will be helpful.
Thanks.
Thanks.
i have rear disc on my 94 ex coupe, and ive had a 95 ex coupe with rear drum and it stopped just as good as my ex with disc does. Only advantage i can see is better for maintance.
Drums acutally stop better then discs. If you compare, the intial intent of disc brake all around is maint. they last longer and heat is disapated easier and faster.
Go with disc, drums are a pain in the *** to work on.

I think you got mixed up, discs stop better but they do not last as long as drums. Besides discs add the BLING factor to the car

No sir, bigger contact surface = better braking is a quick and easy way to explain it, I would rather not go into a 4 page explaination on whats better, so trust me on this one (I know im young but not that dumb)

if drum brakes stop better than disks, then why do they put disks in the front where all the weight is? and where all that inertia from stopping is heading towards?

I have always thought that disk and drums initially stopped about the same but under hard braking drums tend to build up (not dissapate) the heat moreso than disks do. That is why our light wieght econo-cars can use rear drums (in most cases).
Disks are also easier to change pads etc.
If you are racing then disks are better as you are hard on the brakes and you want something to disapate the heat better and also easier to change when they wear out.
I could be wrong about some of this, so I will wait for some more knowledgable people to come in here and clear some things up.

So true Thank You sir
Also think about this do soccer moms think about prices? Yes, now if it cost you $165.00 dollar to change pads verses $133.00 for shoes which would you be happier with. Now think of economy.
Like I said i'd rather not go into this long explaination
