freezing your balls off......shop electric bills?
what kind of $ are you guys paying for electricity each month? how many square feet?
in december for aprox 3,000 square feet using the heater every day......my electric bill was 750 bucks. i nearly craped myself and decided i'd rather freeze. the just got my new electric bill not using the heater at all and it was 210 dollars. the insulation in this building isnt the best...but i didnt think it was that bad!

We have 15,000 square feet and our electric bill is under $300 a month. But, we have heated concrete floors which seems to conserve a bunch of energy.

its kind of funny you say that. welding aluminum seems to be my best heater haha. ive noticed myself making a lot more brackets and intercooler piping kits lately hahaha
heated floors.....thats nice. 15,000 square feet? god damn!
i think that shows the difference between different area's of the country or something. a 500 sq/ft apartment around here....with nobody living in it....the heat set at 65 degree's and NOTHING else turned on (freind of mines) and the bill is still around 220 a month.

I live in a 4 bedroom single family home (3,200 sq/ft), with a 3 year old son and wife and we pay around $250 EVERY 2 MONTHS. Granted, our heat is propane ... don't get me started on that bill, but we still cook (propane is for heat only and nothing else), watch T.V., etc.

My shop is 2500 sq ft with radiant heat in the floors. We run an oil burning boiler. We do burn alot of oil when it's cold out. The shop is so nice and warm though. I find that my employees are much more productive when they are not cold, so I'll find a way to pay off the oil bills
um, get a kerosene heater or two. those things will run all day off of 2 gallons of kerosene and damn near torch you if you get within 10ft of them.
oh...and invest in some insulation....

Heated floors...mmmm...I wish I had them in my garage. I'd never leave the garage than...when it comes time to sleep just lay on the nice warm concrete floor wake up and back to work lol
Seriosly tho, isulation and heated floor may cost more at first but dam is it nice. My first time on a heated floor made me almost want to add some cement to the garage floor at home, only this time with the heat.

Gets to around -10, -20 here.
Its my shop outside my home... 1 large wood stove, garage is all closed in, no insulation, just plywood roof/sofets.
yeah the stove does it very well, i burn old hardwood flooring i get from a mill, its just scraps and its not been coated yet, and kiln dried so it burns well.
Cost is free, just i have to fill the stove every hour or so.. and get wood once a month. It gets nice and warm i just wear a very thin pair of overalls.
