cable on trans
alright everyone this is my first time posting for help, usually i can find help searching but i couldnt come up with anything this time. Heres the story i was driving the other day, got to a stop light took the car out of gear (91 crx stock motor) and couldnt put it back in any gear. i popped my hood to see if there was anything that looked wrong. I saw the cable that goes to the trans had a rubber sleeve over it but it was torn. could this be why i cant get it in gear? when i searched everyone said the clutch was bad, but no one reported broken rubber sleeve around the cable. Also i can put the car in gear when its off, and drive in just one gear, but cant shift into another why its running. Any help is appricated (SP?). If i forgot any helpful info just ask. Thanks!
Either your clutch cable, throwout bearing, or pressure plate is messed up. You cant disengage the clutch to shift while moving but once you stop the tranny isnt spinning thus you can put it in gear.
And to adjust the tension, physically hold the shift lever on the tranny up, theres a threaded **** under the lever that you turn to tighten or loosen. Holding the lever up, tighten it up to being just snug with the lever as its held up. Then back off 2-3 turns. Try that and adjust to your liking.

unscrew it from the holder above the tranny, pull up on the lever (on the transmission) and there should be enough slack to slip it out of it's bracket.. THEN! disengage it at the clutch pedal.. it's simple, push the pedal in that will pull the slack to the pedal side of the cable then just slip it off the "hook" where the cable connects to the pedal. once you look at it/do it, it will become very simple/clear.
P.S. don't get cheap.. if you have to replace it, Honda OEM cables are superior to aftermarket parts house ones.
