Default First time efer

Sooo im looking to buy this car cuz its so damn clean and because i have a love for efs.Ive never had an ef so this will be my first and im alredy thinking about stuff to do to it if i do get it.Now i had a 92 cx in which me and my mechanic swapped in a jdm d15b so this car should be cake hopefully.

I want the car to be as simple as can be with a b16a first gen motor. My only gripe is ive never had an ef and the whole thing seems like its a big challenge.Im hopefully going to check this car out 2morrow and hopefully bring it home.It might even be put into the garage to work on right away instead of driving it.Ill do my best to search around and answer my own questions but any help will be appreciated.Oh yah i have 6000 to make this happen hmm maybe i wont even go over 5000?

http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/125949783.html
plans
-ground controls/koni yellows
-first gen b16a
-ef9 rear seats
-civic si(ef)front seats
-rsr ex mag

That is a very clean car...good luck with it.

My suggestion....Drive it for awhile so you really appreciate that b16 when you drop it in.

Wow I can't believe your getting that good of a deal! I just don't see HBs go for that cheap around here. I say drive the car so you will know if there are any problems before you EVER swap the motor this way it will be much easier to trouble shoot any problems after the swap and yes you will also be able to compare the diff before and after (and you will love it!). Since you have $5K-$6K to spend then I URGE you to go w/ a '92-93 XSi JDM B16, it has 170hp vs. 160hp on 1st gen, the tranny is compatible w/ usdm GS-R so if it needs repair you will not be stuck having to find VERY RARE JDM y1 (1st gen) trans parts that are not available in the states (Not that I have found anyway) and the tranny is also beefier than the 1st GEN. to top it off you should go with the OBD 0-OBD 1 conversion to really benefit from this swap (Rywire.com), I don't know what exactly Honda did diferently with OBD 1 but the power band is SOOOO much better and the top speed limiter is a little higher than OBD 0. I just built an OBD 0 CRX about 3 months ago and before that I always had OBD 1 cars with a B16 swap (95 Ex coupe, '92 GS-R), so when I took the REX into Vtec I just was not happy after some research I decided to go OBD 1 and OMG!!!! I could not believe the difference, I was finally happy with the swap and hell now the damn car can catch 4th gear like crazy! pretty sweet but damn my tires are wearing out!

I hope this helps you because DAMN that took forever to type. good luck and hit me up if you have any questions at all.

With THAT kind of money to throw around, why swap in a B16A? Do yourself a HUGE favor and swap a GSR. If you go GSR, you will never regret spending the extra cash on it.

Also a good idea, it cost about $1,000 more on average to do the GSR (Go JDM if you can, it's got 180hp instead of usdm 170hp.) but if you can afford it go for it!

Well I just realized if you go with a B18C then you have to get a tranny seperately since you need cable and not buying the motor and trans together will set you back more $$ for sure and you will most likely be stuck ordering parts you would not have needed if purchasing motor/trans together (1/2 shaft, Dizzy, mounts, etc). You can make the Hydro work in your cable car but IMO the money you have to spend on the conversion to run the hydro tranny is just way to much! just go with a ys1, it bolts up and if you like you can always swap the internals with any other 92-00 B-series gears and/or LSD, i.e. Type R or whatever. Even though it's cable the 92-93 GS-R (or XSi in japan) trannys are interchangable with the hydro B-series stuff so that's why I say just go w/ simplicity and go Cable. I know a GSR would be fast but my 170hp 93 SiR II engine with ITR cams in my REX is fast as hell and I have spanked quite a few GS-R powered hybrids (all though I would be a little faster with GSR power but hey I am very happy w/ my setup)

Well Id def. suggest getting b16a2 instead of 1st gen, for reasons previously explained. and to the rsr exhaust, good choice

you should just get the omni coil-over kit, its 650 shipped robearracing.com or however the f u spell it. ive heard nothing but good.

and how the hell much is the crx your buying, stock correct ? ?

OMGGGG check this out.Im going to try and buy this 2morrow morning.

Single owner 1990 Honda Civic SI Hatch Back, 110k mi, 1.6 ltr, 5spd, PB, AC, Moonroof, 28mpg city, 32hwy.

All stock, original owner with service record, dependable, runs and drives well, no oil leaks. Black ext, grey interior, minor ext blemishes including 1 minor where hood meets bumper from parking ding.

Well loved, only selling because family outgrew hatchback and moved onto a 4dr truck, no room for both.

Good dependable transportation, good 1st car, good import tuner potential.

The cost difference is probably only about $100 (or so). Remember that you CAN buy the Hasport mount kit specifically for hydraulic transmissions. You don't have to buy the cable mount kit AND hydraulic conversion kit.
