spray gun
Hey guys, im looking for a nice spray gun to learn on in the spring. I found this and it seems pretty nice, but i was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or anything. Also, does anyone know if this would be able to spray primer or would i need a different tip?

FULL SIZE HVLP SPRAY GUN
• Features 600cc cup and aluminum screw on lid with internal baffle.
• An adjustable spray pattern varies from a round jet to a full flat pattern.
• The HVLP feature provides less overspray with a higher pattern to work transfer efficiency.
• Fine atomization at low air consumption, excellent balance with soft trigger action, includes a dial regulator as standard equipment.
• Exclusive color coded tip allows the user to easily recognize the tip that is being used by color of the anozided cap.
• Blue tip indicates a 1.4mm tip for automotive colors and clears.
Thanks for any help

no it wouldnt spray primer right.. you would need a cup gun for that.. I use a sata rp digital but that may be a lilttle outta your price range
i use the sharpe finex fx300 guns for primer and it shoots very good. i use a 1.5 for sealer and 1.8 for 2k. these are very affordable guns. for base and clear i use high ends guns. for base i have a sata nr2000 digital 2 and for clear i have a sata rp digital 2.
I just searched the sata guns and they seem really nice, but they are out of my price range
Do you think a decent paint job is possible w/ enough prep work, a cheap primer gun, and the gun above for color and clear?
Im not going for a show car, i just dont want to have primered spots on my car after i fix some scratches and dents.

It all depends on what type of primer you are shooting... If you are shooting a filler, you will need a gun that has a larger needle and head on it... As for a sealer, primer, you can use a gun that is directed towards more of a base gun... I personally use a set of guns for different primer's, bases, and clears.. Most of my primer's I will shoot through a 1.8 to 2.1 tip (cobalt, sharp) gun... Not an expensive gun at all... Around 130 to 180 for one... As for most base I use a develbiss gun with a 1.8 tip... For clear I use a optium Clear buster with a large 2.1 tip.... The sized of tips ar all going to depend on the feel for each user.... If you are starting out and have a limited budget.... I would recommend getting into a gun that is reasonable in cost to learn with... (100-200)
I use a devil bliss 2.0 for primer, 1.4 for sealer, 1.3 for base and clear and base blenders, 1.2 for clear all but the 2.0 are sata and my 1.2 is a digi sata, those guns tear it up, I also have a sata touch up gun that i believe is a .9 or something like that, but there all at the shop, I have used bigger tips for clear like the 1.3 and 1.4 but love the 1.2, I spray dupont 72500 clear and 4700 clear all day every day
what kind of spray gun is that??
i also own a sata...its the sata rp digital 2 special in a blue color...with a 1.2 needle...i only use this gun to spray base and clear and its really amazing...looks better than faactory...
also paint is like your block...dont go cheap on it...expecially if your doing it yourself...i myself bought all the necessary things just to paint my bro's car such as a bigger stronger air tank and stuff llike that...

it is probably better cause the adjustments are much more accurate at the gun due to the pressure drop in the length of hose your using. you need to make sure your getting the right amount of air at the cap. also make sure you use hvlp fittings so you don't starve your gun from air. if you don't want to have a regulator at the gun you have to at least have a gauge on it so when you make your adjustments at the compressor you can see what your getting at the gun. this is why i like the sata digitals cause the theres a digital gauge/regulator integrated into the gun handle. here's a pic of it.
sry to bump an older thread but i saw that the harbor frieght gun was mentioned... has anyone used it before? i saw a 16$ one and i just need it to spray a lip kit once
if your talking about the purple one for 40 bucks i've used it. it sprays really well. used it for primer sealers. it's worth the price. for sealers i now use a sharpe finex fx300. it's about 90 bucks and i noticed no difference with that and the hf one. the finex might be more durable but it performs the same.
