d15b vtec or d16z6 vtec ?
What motor do I go with A d16z6 or the jdm d15b? Can anyone give me some pointers on with motor to go with? I need some kind of idea on which to go with other than which ever on is cheaper. I've heard they are the same exact motor, one is jdm, one isnt... I have a guy who can get me both, for about $50 difference. He said he pulled 190 whp out of a d15b and it revs out to 8500 rpm.
I have a d16 and have had main bearing problems, right now the motor is "smoked", I need a replacement. Anyone have a motor to sell? Get back to me. F.Y.I. I have a 91 hatch that used to have a d16z6 swap. HELP!!!

i have the d15b vtec (just bought it) and as of now im not too impressed with it but supposidly it has slightly higher compression and a more agressive camshaft... i also havent hooked up the vtec yet so that probaly has ALOT to do with it
yea pick wich ever one you get for cheap and thats in good condition and not alot of miles. they both share same parts (well some to some extent but mostly all parts are backwards compatible between each D engine. Just do your research and you will be happy with your D. Looking to Turbo mine soon so i can be a Turbo D Ninja!!!
The heads of the d15b and the z6 are exactly the same except for the camshaft. Thats it. Both are marked P08.
The block of the d15b is pretty much a civic vx block. It has slightly higher compression than the z6, and the power is about the same. They are pretty much the same motor. But if you can get slightly higher compression in the z6 with a zex cam, it will give it a bump in power you will be happy with.

The Heads of the two are identical as previously stated. There is one guy one Honda-Tech.com that tested like 4-5 Z6 and D15B VTEC Cams and there were all about the same.
The Rod/Stroke ratio of the D15B is better than the Z6 (Will allow it to spin easier)
D15B VTEC Info:

http://asia.vtec.net/specs/
D15B Specs:
Capacity = 1493 cc
Bore X Stroke (mm) = 75.0 X 84.5
Compression Ratio = 9.3:1 (Some report 9.6:1; Unsure of what is true)
Z6:
Capacity = 1590 cc
Bore X Stroke (mm) = 75.0 X 90.0
Compression Ratio = 9.2:1
